I carry 147gr JHP and the FMJ is for the range and other things.

Agreed with most of the rest. All hollow points here. If you're worried about your chosen JHP's intermediate barrier penetration, switch to DPX. Ball rounds could bite you, either in a scenario with multiple aggressors, or by failing to produce stopping wounds after barrier penetration.

for the .380, or lower powered .32, it may be a good idea to alternate hp and jhp in the winter time. You just may need that extra ballistic advantage of "over penetration" during times of heavy winter clothing

After having a Remington 230 jhp (not noted for great expansion or penetration) penetrate 2 2x4s and still score on an idpa target behind them, I determined that modern jhps have sufficinate penetration for my use so I load all mags with speer Gold Dots.
