This article highlights something else really well. This man was not psychologically prepared to shoot someone.
He had a gun. He REALLY didn't want to use it. I wonder if the perp had actually gained entry, would he have pulled the trigger?

My bet is he would. I think there is a strong possibility he was saying that stuff so he would not have been accused of murder when he took the guy out.In court they would have heard him saying he really did not want to shoot the guy.

It's your job to protect yourself and your family from harm. Do not rely on anyone else to do your job for you. Anyone who chooses to be unarmed and places themselves at the mercy of others for their protection is taking a risk that I, personally, am not willing to take.
