Lott's research deals exclusively with the effects of states passing shall issue concealed carry laws. Open carry is not addressed. The only significant thing Lott theorizes is in the mind of criminals is the thought that a potential victim might be armed. In Lott's model, criminals do not "see" anything out of the ordinary.DoubleJ wrote:if you were to read John Lott's book More Guns = Less Crime, you might find some genuine statistics that coincide with that claim!aardwolf wrote:I have knowledge that allowing unrestricted unlicensed open carry in Texas will cause a 37% decrease in violent crime in the first three years and a 72% drop in ten years, though I do not want to disclose how.
Dr Lott's book is actually more involved with Concealed Carry, but it does go to show that criminals who see a "hard" target, look elsewhere.
Moreover, I think the "statistics" quoted above are not to be taken seriously. They represent a somewhat lame attempt to make a "clever" response to my expressed concern and need for privacy in divulging certain life history data on an open forum. As if no one has ever expressed a similar sentiment on this board before, and been treated with respect.
Somewhat of a waste of bandwidth.
