It always seemed to me that someone who is carrying around a felony-level amount of drugs maybe should drive carefully and not actually use the drugs at the time.

Those are rational thoughts, which come few and far between when smoking, snorting, or injecting things that aren't good for you.

I remember a while back in the San Leon rag where they have the 'stupid criminals' section. IIRC, Dickinson (or was it TX City) PD pulled over a guy weaving all over I-45 headed North from Galveston. Cop asked him why he was weaving. His response was "I was busy rolling a joint." I think they had a prize for him later on.

Probably it was Dickinson or Friendswood. probably it was Dickinson or Friendswood. I don't think Texas City police routinely go on I-45. Nearly all the territory of Texas City is east of I-45.
There are all kinds of dopes in the county, not to mention the tourists.

They always tell you not to lie to the police, and look what it got him.

A 32-year-old Galveston man was arrested in Santa Fe Tuesday. Police allege that he was driving, smoking dope, with his 4-year-old son in the car. The man was also charged with possession of crack.

In unrelated news, two women walking dogs on the east end were attacked by loose pit bulls. The women were rescued by people in the area. One woman and one dog required medical treatment.
Four dogs were taken into custody. The dogs had no tags or microchips.
A police lieutenant who is the go-to guy for animal control issues said—
There are ways to protect yourself on a dog walk, including carrying canine Mace and a large stick, said Caldwell, who heads the police department’s Animal Services Unit.
Caldwell is also an advocate for concealed handgun licenses, he said, noting that was not the official stance of the police department.
“I’m a strong proponent of concealed carry firearms,” Caldwell said. “In a situation if you’re attacked by four strong pit bulls, you’re more than justified to use whatever force against them.”

The area where this occurred (Fish Village) is adjacent to large areas of vacant land, so it is possible that the dogs were feral or kept by vagrants who camp there.

Or it could be the vagrant dogs belonged to feral people who camp there.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday a purse snatcher took the purse of a 73-year-old Texas City woman in the 6300 block of Stewart Road. The victim was knocked to the ground but was not injured.
Police caught a 23-year-old black man from Galveston a few blocks away. The suspect was charged with aggravated robbery. The victim's purse was recovered.
Though the story doesn't say, this address is a strip mall containing several stores.

This is the second time a Russian national has been robbed in that area early in the morning. Many Russians and people from other eastern European countries work at local hotels.

Wednesday's star performers were arrested when Galveston police executed a search warrant at an auto repair and paint shop in the 2300 block of Avenue P 1/2.
A 52-year-old Pearland man who was reportedly the operator of the shop and a Galveston man were arrested and charged with felony theft.
Police recovered about $2,000 worth of tools and equipment that had been reported stolen from nearby garages.
While police were concluding the investigation, two men arrived in a car. One spoke with police. He was arrested and charged with possession of crack. The fourth man was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor.

There is a certain intermingling of decent and questionable neighborhoods on the island which I have never seen elsewhere. I just keep everything locked up and secure in the event that some of the hoodlums decide to tour my front yard while I am at work.

Galveston is typical of old cities that had decades of economic decline, corrupt and incompetent government, and lax code enforcement. Obviously they get run down, and people who can move out do. Some decent people never leave. Then new people start to move in and renovate.
There are houses in great condition today that were run-down or abandoned 10-15 yeas ago. The
Hutchings house at 28th and O used to like the house in
Psycho.

I'm not one to cast aspersions on either the good guys or the bad guys but doesn't someone have to also be charged with DWI if they have crack on their person and knowingly drive up to a business surrounded by cop cars? "Like duuuuuude, are you arresting peope for stuff?"
