Kevin,
Thanks for you email and information. I will have to check this
with the City Attorney's office. We will have it removed after
discussing the information you sent me. Thanks again for the heads up.
Morning Kevin,
I have already checked this out with the City Attorney's office and we will be removing the signs ASAP. Thanks again for your help in this matter, we were actually in the process of placing new graphics on the SWC windows which included the "No Guns" signage. Please let me know if there is anything else, once again we apppreciate the information.

Well to update you on the Lagrange City hall posting , the City Attorney is now looking into it as I was there to pay the Ex wife's Electric bill. They have a 30.06 that's maybe 24 "x24" with the right wording. the only door its on is the one you go into pay the Electric bill or get a permit ,I walked around and looked at all the other doors and they are not posted.
The city attorney took offence to me asking about it, and was going to ask the City Manager about it .
I will post her response when I get it .

here is the sign in on the left side of only one of the doors at the LaGrange City hall
here is the picture of the sign
here is the other sign that's next to it.
The city Attorney was suppose to call me back on Wednesday afternoon and still no call,
When I was taking these picture a City Employee told me and my oldest daughter that we needed permission to take pictures of City hall and they where goingto call the police if I didn't leave so we left with the pictures you see.
the City Attorney's name is Angela Beck here is her number 979-968-8491
So anyone have a Idea what to do next??

It looks like that's an obsolete sign.

That almost troubles me more than the 30.06 sign.
I'd have gotten that employees name and found out under just what authority he/she thinks taking a picture of a public building is a crime!

Somewhere -- earlier in this thread, I think -- Mr. Cotton suggested using Open Records Requests to challenge the placement of 30.06 signs by government entities, basically asking them to provide all the documentation that supports the posting (and I think he noted often there is none). I was intrigued by this, and looked up a couple resources on the 'net about it, one being the Texas Attorney General's website, and another being a newspaper sponsored one that had some specific details about how to go about doing ORRs (they even provide workshops, in conjunction with the Texas AG). However, I haven't had an opportunity to do this, as Guadalupe County/Seguin city seem to be pretty law abiding concerning these signs! Do a search of the forum on Open Records and you will probably bring up the discussion and the URLs I am talking about.
An ORR triggers a timeline for the city to respond --- you won't necessarily get a good response right away, it may be "we are working on it..." but I THINK they have to give you an estimated completion date. This would let the city attorney know you are not going away if she ignores you. (also, the city can charge a fee for the documentation, but if you can argue that the info is generally useful to the public, the fee can be waived. You could probably get people on this forum to support you on the "generally useful" tack if need be.)
Good luck and keep us posted.

p.s. You might want to also file an ORR demanding all records that support allowing city employees to interfere with your picture taking....

Good advice, and an angle I had not heard of.
I may want to tackle this for the Tarrant County Records Building, which has an obnoxious and strongly worded non-30.06 sign.

I'd like to see this subject get it's own section, then each location would get it's own subject line. That'd make it much easier rather than wading through page after page.

When I use an Open Records Request on this type of issue, I don't ask for records authorizing the posting of a 30.06 sign. Governmental agencies don't need authorization to post. I ask for records indicating 1) the signs are enforceable; 2) the signs are not enforceable; and 3) any deliberations by the governing body as to the motive and goals for posting the signs.

Medical Center McKinney posts a 51% sign on their doors...in addition to the correct .30-06 sign, and IIRC, a ghostbusters no guns sign even!. But the 51% sign cracks me up!
