I pretend I don't like country music, but there always will be a special place in my heart for Johnny Horton.
He was killed in a car accident in Milano, Texas in 1960.

Johnny Horton only recorded for a couple of years before his death at the age of 35. In addition to country, Horton had success in rockabilly and pop music. He had a few hits with historical and patriotic songs such as The Battle of New Orleans, Sink the Bismark, North to Alaska, Jim Bridger and Johnny Freedom. Had he lived longer, I am sure that he would have made a lot more great music.

Horton married Billie Jean Jones, Hank Williams' widow. He and Johnny Cash were friends and fishing buddies. There is a story that Horton had a premonition of an early death and that he and Cash made a pact that if either one died, the survivor would take care of the deceased family.

Johnny Burnette - "Dreamin'"
Another rockabilly singer who, at 30, died too young.

The Dead Kennedy's 4th single, but I can't post that here, so I give you Feeling Good by Nina Simone.

Love this song too.
   DUDE!!! I think that's one of the long-lost songs I used to love, but never knew who sang it because the stupid DJs on that station never said what anything was. I mean, I think they'd accidentally mention the name of a band who's music might've played sometime in the past year or two, but never in a way that'd be helpful.

Anyway, thanks

Glad I could help! I got into Social D several years ago and realized all of what I had been missing. :)

WildBill, good choice on Streets of Bakersfield! I had a chance to visit Buck Owens' Crystal Palace in Bakersfield a few years back, neat place with some good live music.

John D. Loudermilk was known mostly as a songwriter.
He wrote quite a few hits for pop singers.
Many of his songs are humorous.
Here is one that he sang himself.
A simple love song when life and music was more innocent.
