There was an LE6920 for sale going for $2750 with Magpul furniture while I bought mine for $1050 last summer. It turns out that the 4 ARs/M4s were on consignment and those were the prices the people selling them wanted to charge. When the owner got back from SHOT Show he saw the prices and the concerns from his staff. He called the owners and told them that they had to take the rifles back or sell them with in $100 of blue book price. He did not want gouging and he did not want people to think he was inflating his prices and tarnish the name of his business.

I know the OP is for Gougers but it's nice to read about a LGS owner holding the line on consignment sales. I received an email letter from Midway apologizing for delays and limits, but also stating prices are still the same. Even employees must abide by the limits placed on customer orders. :thumbs2:

Nope... Nobody will care. This is not the first time we have had an ammo supply and demand issue. It is actually a situation I have experienced at least four times in my life... Two in the past four years alone. Nobody will care once supplies catch up and the prices drop again.

I wish I had a quarter for every post I read proclaiming "never again" four years ago. Memories are very short.

Lets get real for a minute here. Are you telling me if that supplier you posted the link to drops the prices of ammo back to what you feel they should charge and others don't have it, you are going to go without ammo?

Since I have been here, done this, I will tell you how this will shake out. At some point, the supplies will start catching up and one by one these places will begin to have inventory. Everyone who claims self righteous indignation over the prices will think to themselves... Oh thank goodness,,, ammo!! They will buy buy buy... LOL.

Who is LGS? You have a link to them. I'm not really hurting for ammo but if they are selling ammo at half the price of everyone else and are able to get inventory, I am in! Sounds like a great deal to me. Thanks for the info...

I 100% can tell you that I will remember the ones that are insanely priced now...I will also remember the manager at my local Academy that treats those of us that get online before we head to the office each day with 100% courtesy and respect and will let us know what he has available. I have already begun buying anything that I can get at Academy from "his" store!
Once supplies are back to normal, I won't need the online dealers and the fee's to ship - I will stick with the bulk at Academy and Walmart. For now, I take what I can get, when I can get it, at a price I am comfortable with. ! Good luck to all!

PS- I have met some of the nicest down to earth folks waiting on line at stores for ammo :)

I actually am impressed with our local Academy. A few weeks ago I went in to the store late and casually asked the folks behind the gun case if they had any insight about when they would have some ammo. They said no but then pointed out that they had some fishing rods on sale for a penny each. A clear case of gouging if I ever saw one. :smilelol5:

I sprung for two rods.

I hate acronyms!! I thought it was an online gun store... Maybe we could get the name of the LGS? It might be worth a drive if they are selling goods at half what every other place is selling them for. :coolgleamA:

Isn't that a "bait and switch" rather than gouging? :biggrinjester:

Funny thing.... In the last great shortage... It seemed to me that the big box retailers like academy and Walmart held their prices. The reason is obvious to a person who knows about running a company. Those types of places don't derive their main source of revenue from the sales of guns and ammo. They have other items they sell that cover their overhead.

A gun store only type business has to make enough money to cover overhead with the limited supply they can acquire. Thus the higher price. If I am a widget only retailer and I need to sell 100 widgets at a 25% gross margin to cover my overhead but I can only get 50 widgets from my supplier, i have to make a 50% gross margin on the fifty I can get to cover my overhead. Pretty easy math for anyone who has ever tried to derive their main source of income from running a business.

You know what I remember about academy? I remember them requiring a NICS check for a CHL holder even though the law says they don't need to. I remember the kids working behind the counter bantering on with completely erroneous information about guns to noobs who are looking for good advice. I remember them asking for my personal information to sell me ammo. I remember them walking me out the store like a child after purchasing a rifle.

Here is what I remember about Walmart. I remember wondering around the store for half an hour looking for an employee to help me get to the ammo locked away in the cabinet. I remember them going into towns and running all the small businesses out with predatory pricing. I remember them working employees 28 hours so they can avoid paying them benefits.

Just a few of many fond memories I have of Walmart and Academy.

I remember this one from 4 years ago -->viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8345&p=268555&hilit=bkjunk#p268555

70 bucks for a 50 count box of steel cased 380 ammo, I don't think I got on my soapbox and said never again, but I have not purchased anything from CTD since then and never will.

since that last ammo shortage I have always kept about 1500 rounds of each caliber in stock. Just pick up a box here and there and sooner than you know it your supply will be built up. I also have components for about 7k 9mm rounds. I should be able to make it a year with 2-3 matches a month. Hopefully things will have settled down by then.

Yep... Did I say anything about never doing business with them again because of it? I think I said it was dumb to pay that much. Now that price doesn't look so bad...LOL. I don't think I ever bought anything from them anyway. It was not because of price. i just never liked them.

While you may have stuck by your guns, most folks didn't and won't. The minute that place has plenty of stock and lots of low priced ammo, folks will be all over it again... Just like they were since that infamous post from 2009.

Something funny. I still wonder if that was some kind of misprint. It had to be! :smilelol5: 69 bucks for fifty rounds?? Lol... All over again.

You caused me to start reading that thread. Check out the post on this page. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8345&hilit=bkjunk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Those were the days!!!

:smilelol5: :smilelol5: That thread is great! We were all worked up in 2009. I think the shortage is worse these days... Maybe not... I dunno. I stocked up pretty good when prices were much lower. I did not want to be at the mercy of availability to go shooting. I did find a post I made saying I wouldn't buy from CTD ... I kept my word but it had very little to do with price. Some of the prices we were crying about would be considered cheap right now.

I bet I read a dozen posts swearing off CTD. They were about as popular than as they are now... LOL.
