Ya got me excited!

Unfortunately, the link is to .22 CB Short ammo, not LR. Natchez has no .22 LR in stock in any brand. Good thing I still have a little left. You'd think .22 would loosen up before larger calibers, but it's still choked in the marketplace.
I didn't notice it was for CB. I asked them to notify me of LR. :headscratch
Ummm.........I don't shoot 22 but, and I'm showing that here, what is the abbreviation CB stand for??

Joe
CB Cap - Conical Ball Cap
BB Cap - Bulleted Breech Cap
Those terms are a throw back to 19th Century loadings and what was once called Flobert rounds. Originally BB caps had an actual ball projectile. There are now CB longs, CB shorts and others. BB caps are usually only primer powered while CB's can be primer only or they can have a small powder charge. Velocities range from about 375 fps to just over 700 fps . Aguila calls theirs Colibri and they also make a 60 grn round called sniper subsonic loaded in a short.22 case. Odd looking to say the least. Remington makes CB - eers, even in HP. All are subsonic and low noise.

At $35 per 100 rds that is a bit expensive. It used to cost $20-$24 per 100 rds.

Academy near 183 and Oak Knoll last Wednesday was stocked on all major calibers, albeit a bit low on 9mm and only offering WWB. $16 for 50 and $25 for 50 rounds of Speer .45. Still have the one box per caliber per day limit.

In the last two weeks, at my local Wal-Marts, I've found .45s (WWB 50 and 100, and Fed) and .22LR (275) !! This is late on
delivery day, and the next day. Are things gonna loosen up ?

In this neck of the woods, finding any has been very difficult. I agree, I used to buy 100 rounds of Remington UMC hollow point for $25/100 at Wal-Mart and it was usually always there...that was 2010. Nowadays, WWB at Academy when you can find it is running about $15/box (50) and they limit you to one box. I didn't like the price nearly as much as I liked getting one box of 350 in one trip to the store.

Supply and demand!

That same box was $30 cheaper in December but it is what it is. If you want to shoot, you pay to play the game.

:iagree: I used to pay 17.9¢ a gallon for premium gasoline. That ain't coming back either.

But Walmart is still offering same 9mm bullets at $22 per 100rds. The catch is you have to call and check inventory ahead of your wally world visit.

I used to keep an Excel spreadsheet on commercial ammo prices before I started relying on http://gun-deals.com/. Just for reference:
  • .223 Fiocchi 55-grain, 2007, $0.319 per round
  • .223 Prvi Partizan 55-grain, 2008, $0.33 per round
  • .308 Prvi Partizan 145-grain, 2008, $0.47 per round
  • .308 Winchester 150-grain, 2008, $0.485 per round
  • .40 S&W Sellier & Bellot, 180-grain, 2007, $0.208 per round
  • .40 S&W Winchester White Box, 180-grain, 2007, $0.210 per round
  • .45 ACP Sellier & Bellot, 230-grain, 2007, $0.218 per round
  • .45 ACP Winchester White Box, 230-grain, 2007, $0.233 per round
  • 9mm Sellier & Bellot, 115-grain, 2007, $0.14 per round
  • 9mm Federal American Eagle, 115-grain, 2007, $0.15 per round
These were prices just five or six years ago. Not the five decades ago we saw 20-cent gas.

Compare (if in stock) the current best prices on brass-cased ammo:
  • .223 Federal American Eagle, 55-grain, $0.465 per round
  • .308 Prvi Partizan 145-grain, $0.68 per round
  • .40 S&W Remington UMC, 180-grain, $0.4 per round
  • .45 ACP Winchester White Box, 230-Grain, $0.495
  • 9mm Remington UMC, 115-Grain, $0.45 per round
For commercial ammo, any way you cut it I'm paying twice as much per round for .45 ACP and .40 S&W as I was six years ago. And I'm paying over three times as much per round to shoot 9mm.

I wish I'd tracked .22 LR because I think it's over-the-top, too. I haven't found any decent .22 LR for months.

Which is great if you have the time to look for it and can go buying at odd hours. Not everybody can. I've found some cheaper Winchester 100 round boxes at Academy but I was lucky in that they put those out late in the day and I just happened to be in there. Some places have seen a huge relaxation in 9mm supply, others (such as mine) have not.

There is a point where it is just more convenient to pay more to get what you want or need.

I think there's light at the end of the tunnel (and it's not a train). A couple of online vendors I use sent links to lots of 5.56/.223 in stock. I didn't check the other calibers. While the prices are not at pre-election levels they have come down

Academy at Highway 6 and 290 in Houston, had just about everything today. They seam to always have the popular ammo in stock these days.
