My old eyes see the front sight as a blur on my AR so I've been thinking about adding a scope. Last week I got an email from SWFA promoting the BSA Sweet 223 at a good price so I went there and picked one up along with a carry handle rail and mounts. The AR is a DPMS Classic 16.

Yes. I love these guns. Dependable as they can be. Shoot crap ammo all day long. Accurate out to 150 yards (either caliber) no problem. The .223 (with the big scope)....hit pie plates at 400 yards and has killed a hog at 250 yards. Yes with a 55 grain FMJ .223. Put that one in your ballistic database

Below is the newest addition to the family, one that had a 16-month gestation period: I placed the order in May 2008, and the rifle arrived a couple of weeks ago. It's a Patriot Ordnance .308 gas-piston "Recon Rifle" with a 16-inch barrel. This is precisely as the rifle shipped from POF, with the exception of a rear Troy folding batttle sight; the base rifle does not ship with a rear sight. I also got a Troy folder for the front, but I wanted to take a few photos before installing that, an optic, or a bipod. The lack of a bipod, BTW, is why the out-of-place box of Winchester shot shells is in the pictures...I needed something to hold the rifle upright.
And I need to apologize in advance because my camera is about to be ready for a landfill. I had to take three times the number of photos posted here just to get a few useable ones. You should see the bizarre, psychedelic results I got on some of the other shots. And I definitely think it's a dying microship in the digital camera, not an early Halloween poltergeist.

A better look from the rear at the full-length, Modular Railed Receiver (MRR).

Angled from the front, this better shows the fluted barrel with the BC-A5 muzzle brake, crenulated for use as an impact instrument; also a better look at the gas plug that is one-turn adjustable to adapt to fire with a suppressor or heavy loads.

Closer to straight-on you can see how much cooling space is allowed in the fully-free-floating barrel design.

Another side view that, again, shows all the venting space around the gas tube and barrel, and gives a better look at the heavily reinforced and flared mag well, and the enlarged fore-end of the trigger guard.
I may be slow getting to it--after all, waiting for the rifle taught me more patience--but I'll definitely do a range report once we spend some quality time together.
