What's the FBI going to assume when PhD. Ford makes a statement that says it happened, and Kavanaugh as well as a host of others makes statements that it didn't? There's no evidence that anything happened. How can there be a legitimate outcome of an investigation other than "inconclusive, no evidence for or against"? Is the FBI about to go "Oops, we missed this on the previous 4 or 5 background investigations we've done on Judge Kavanaugh. Our bad."?

Correct. A delaying tactic while the creepy porn lawyers and Democrats (sorry, I repeat myself) dredge up more fake victims.

Per the senators of both parties during the committee vote, the scope was limited to only the three extant accusers: Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and Julie Swetnick. Swetnick is the one represented by #CreepyPornLawyer. She’s by far the least credible accuser. She talks about high school gang-rape parties, which she says she attended as an adult college student - in itself legally troubling. She says she attended 10 such parties. If she was observing gang-rape at the first one, why on earth did she go back to 9 more? She has also talked about rape parties on boats, etc., etc. Upon inspection, we find that she’s such a whack job that her former BF filed a restraining order against her for stalking and threatening his wife and children. Her accusation is so looney as to be absurd.

Deborah Ramirez alleges that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a Yale party. To date, there are no known corroborating witnesses, so it’s very much a she said / he said matter. In other words, it’s unprovable.

Also, since yesterday, Kavanaugh’s high school buddy Mark Judge - claimed by Ford to be a witness of her attack, and which Judge denies - has announced that he will make himself available to the FBI investigation.

Okay, I would normally put this in the meme thread, but this fits this thread so much better. I think I win the internet with this one.

It's my understanding that in MD, until 1996, the acts that Dr Ford alleges would have been a misdemeanor, with a 1-year statute of limitations.

Doesn't make the act, if true, any less egregious. But, it does make it unprosecutable today.

But, a late afternoon headline in a northwest Indiana newspaper shines a glimmer of a doubt on Senator Donnelly’s commitment to a no vote. He told the newspaper’s editorial board that now he’s willing to wait for the FBI’s report before making a final decision. In other words, Donnelly has moved from a no vote to a maybe.

Assuming the supplemental background check comes back with nothing, this gives Collins, Murkowski, and possibly some democrats in states that Trump won cover to vote yes.

We can still all agree that no matter what the outcome of the fbi investigation is, there is still a crowd that will claim he’s guilty. Hell if ford came out and said that the whole thing was a farce, there would still be a crowd claiming he’s guilty.
