Montgomery County (Might as well be Houston/Harris, huh?)

1/1/09 -- Internet pre applied
1/3/09 -- Took CHL class
1/12/09 -- Mailed application via CCM/RRR
1/14/09 -- Confirmed delivery receipt
2/4/09 -- Received PIN number via EMail, since never saw on app or paper
2/9/09 -- As of today, status changed from "Packet mailed to applicant" to "Processing Application"

Guess it isn't taking as long as it feels like, when I actually put the dates together. Either way, with the delays I've been seeing and hearing about, I'll put in for a UT CCW in the meantime....

I'll try to keep everyone updated as to status. Best of luck!

Hi all!

I logged in and what do you know....Processing application! :clapping:

I knew if I moved during the wait they would get on it ASAP. Had to email new address. Hope I don't slow it down.

Anyway, there is some movement in Austin!

See sig

Took the class last January on the 24th....mailed my packet and all off on the 31st.

I was wondering if any one with any similar dates had already recieved their PIN number?

I haven't heard anything from the DPS, good or bad.

"Cry Havoc, And Let Slip The Dogs Of War..." I don't remember who said that, but I like the way it sounds.

Meaning

The military order Havoc! was a signal given to the English military forces in the Middle Ages to direct the soldiery (in Shakespeare's parlance 'the dogs of war') to pillage and chaos.

Origin

The Black Book of the Admiralty of 1385 is a collection of laws, in French and Latin, relating to the English Navy. In the 'Ordinances of War of Richard II' in that book we find:

"Item, qe nul soit si hardy de crier havok sur peine davoir la test coupe."

I text in English that comes nearer to defining the term is Grose's History of the English Army, circa 1525:

"Likewise be all manner of beasts, when they be brought into the field and cried havoke, then every man to take his part."

Shakespeare was well aware of the use of the meaning of havoc and he used 'cry havoc' in several of his plays. The 'cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war' form of the phrase is from his Julius Caesar, 1601. After Caesar's murder Anthony regrets the course he has taken and predicts that war is sure to follow.

ANTONY:
Blood and destruction shall be so in use
And dreadful objects so familiar
That mothers shall but smile when they behold
Their infants quarter'd with the hands of war;
All pity choked with custom of fell deeds:
And Caesar's spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice
Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

The term also appears in The Life and Death of King John - "Cry 'havoc!' kings; back to the stained field..." and in Coriolanus -
"Do not cry havoc, where you should but hunt with modest warrant."

In case anyone else was wondering..... ;-)

Blackdog..

Lol, you are the third person to tell me where the quote came from since I've been registered on this forum....but the first to do it in such detail.

I still leave it the way it is in my sig though, because I also like the way it sounds with "but I like the way it sounds" following it.

How long should it take to get my PIN number from the DPS?? It's only been 10 days since I mailed the application, so I'm probably getting a little anxious.

I wasnt paying too much attention but I pre-paid the $140 before I went to class on Dec 22, 2008. Sent it to DPS I think the first week of January. On Feb 6 2009 it changed to Processing Application on DPS website. So I'm like the rest of you..playing the waiting game.
