Re: Prep for hard times
Spent the day letting in more sunshine. Cut 3more trees to let in more sun. Have one more that needs to come down so as not to suck up all the water around it. Wind started blowing before we got to it. It is big & close the 2 fences. Wants to naturally fall on them.
dont tear up stuff.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Re: Prep for hard times
There is a book series that when I was a kid I read quite a few of them...
The Foxfire book series deals with country life (simple), and had a ton of information written in such a way to entertain, yet bring you up to speed on how to do things without the amenities of modern urban life, or modern rural life for that matter...
I would think it would be good to find a set and keep them handy for such times that might dictate their usefulness...

I really should look up the Foxfire books. I've heard of it before, but forgot. The concept of written info could certainly make come back.
For those that may be concerned with getting more self reliant, here is a source at aimed at third world countries. But most of the info might be helpful to anyone that simply does not know "things". Plus, there are some unique solutions, occasionally.

If you are interested in gardening in the Houston area, go check out a group called UrbanHarvest. They are specifically dedicated to growing gardens and orchards in the area. They have classes, associations with all kinds of people. They carry Dr. Randall's Book,
. While very "green", they have lots of good advice on gardens in the area. http://www.urbanharvest.org/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Year Round Vegetables, Fruits and Flowers for Metro-Houston
