Come on, give the guy a break...

Letters sent to:
House District 126--Representative Patricia Harless
Senate District 15--Senator John Whitmire
Congressional District 2--Congressman Ted Poe
US Senator John Cornyn
US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison
Governor Rick Perry

In case anyone else finds themselves in a letter writing campaign, here is a great link:

Just type in your address in the boxes, and it will give you the names and contact information for those in a position to help from your district.

It appears I am now the record holder! Anyone going to buy me a beer? How about a virtual beer? :thumbs2:

297 as of Today.

I called DPS this morning. Spoke to Keelee. She said that Maryanne is handling my file. Said she would send Maryanne an e-mail, and that she would have to xfr me to her voice mail. Of course I left a message in the "black hole". I don't expect a return phone call.

I called Ted Poe's office this morning. Female there said I should "just stop calling as I am probably bothering them and that they will never issue my license if I bother them".. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. After that, I asked her-well what would you do if the state was in violation of processing an application within the time frame allotted? She said, she would just wait. I almost asked her what she would do if her government check just stopped coming, would she just sit and wait it out? I doubt it! You'd hear her voice on capital hill she'd scream so loud.

Anyway, I did make some progress. I called Kay over at Dwayne Bohac's office and she said she would make a call on my behalf to see what kind of progress she could make for me. She was very professional. Very matter of fact. She told me that she had received several calls just like mine and that she would do her best to help me. Said she would call me back in the next day or so. I'll post back after she & I speak again. I feel strongly that she will do what she says she will and that I'll hear back from her. The difference between these 2 calls to these 2 offices was night and day.

Holy Crap Batman! I went to lunch and when I got back I had a message from Deidre @ DPS!

I called back and left message on her voice mail. I will post back what happens after I finally get in touch with her.

Kay is a go-getter! I wonder what I can do to thank her for her help in this matter. She has done in one day what I could not get DPS to do in almost 300!

I'll post back!

Okay, I received a call from Deidre again this afternoon. She said that magically my license was approved, printed, and in her hand at that point in time! She is over-nighting it to me so that I will have it for tomorrow! Ask me if I am amazed! Wait, I think it is obvious.

It looks like this journey is finally reaching a conclusion, and now the responsibility of carrying concealed falls squarely on my shoulders. I don't take this responsibility lightly. I will be the first to run from a bad situation, and the last to start any trouble. 911 is my friend. A gun is the LAST, LAST, LAST resort to any problem. I will pray every night that the time will never come that I will have to use a weapon to defend myself, my family, or anyone else.

Have a great night everyone!

Congrats Kawabuggy. I must say you must have the patience of Jobe considering it took 300 days. I probably would have been extremely impatient by the 100th day. We look forward to hearing about your first Wally Walk.

Question. How bad am i screwed if I have lived in 4 different locations/counties (all in Texas) for hte past 5 years? I documented all of them accurately and in order on my application, and submitted a letter with the app. to explain why I moved so much (switched jobs in the Education field to move up in the ranks). Thanks for the info.

Probably not much unless those counties include Harris and Galveston . . .

I feel bad about this and the post I made earlier this year...It is true Kawa has the patience of Job on this one, but their efforts to resolve the issue were right dead on the money...Sling some mud and see what sticks...

The call to Ted Poe's office and the girl giving you that kind of advise is absolutely incompetent, and proves her ignorance! I know the congressman personally, and he should know about this, and your concern about the issue as a whole...Not saying she should be dissmissed, but it does require some correction...Up to you...

I rarely ever come into this section in the forum because I really do understand the frustration all of those who are paying the state and waiting these days to get their "permission slip" to do something that philisophically you shouldn't have to do in the first place...

All of this waiting used to be something we would kinda rib each other about way back in the day when this all first started, but now it has become something else, and even though I and many others are good to go for a few more years, I do not like seeing the new folks having a hard time getting setup...

And there are ways to fix this...

I would absolutely, call everyday, after the deadline (got to at least give them that time), till they gave me a satisfactory resolution to my concerns...I'm sure they are doing what they can dispite the workload, but having to wait over 250 days is a little too much...

They know what they have to do to step it up, but sometimes the people actually doing the work can't change anything, its the folks uphill that need a gentle punch in the arm to get it implemented...

Just my opinion...
