Visit Wal-Mart in the morning. I found Remington UMC 9mm in the 250-round megapack and WWB .45 JHP in 50-round boxes at the Gulf Freeway and FM 646, then WWB .45 FMJ in 100-round boxes at the Kemah Wally World (yesterday).

rmclain3 wrote:WOW! I just went out to buy some .45 ACP ammo today and it's scarce. Gander Mountain had the obligatory Blazers and expensive premium JHPs but the prices were kinda high. I ended up getting some Winchester FMJ range ammo at Academy. No one seems to have any of the Winchester JHP 50rnd boxes anywhere!! Anyone know of any deals on hollow points for .45 ACP anywhere in the Spring / Cypress area North of Houston??
I was lucky this weekend. Walked into one of the Academy's in San Antonio and picked up some .38 special. They were stocking the shelf with lots of 9mm. Some new Win 9mm NATO ammo for around $13 a box, plus some Monarch. Then went accross the road and got 2 boxes of .45 at Walmart.

The Academy at 1604 and Potranco was OUT of .380 and 9mm, 1 box of .45 (sorry, I got it). Said they got a shipment Wednesday at 1430 hrs and it was GONE (all of it) in 2 hours. Went to the WalMart at Culebra and 1604 - out of ALL handgun ammo with no idea when more was coming.
This SUUUCCCCKKKKKSSSSS!!!!!
Doug
I should go down to the corner of Culebra and 1604 with my little sign - WILL WORK FOR .380 ammo.... (I wish that was funny....)

And it's not just in Texas! I vacationed in Spartanburg, South Carolina last week and at the Academy and Wal-mart stores they were very low also.
No 9mm and just the most expensive 45's. No .223 or 7.62x39. Looks like it's nationwide!

The Academy at 410 and Military Drive is where I went. I think there was only two boxes of .45 left at the Walmart across the road. The guy working behind the gun counter told me that some guys were coming in to buy cases then were going to gun shows......that's just wrong.

Wally World in Lewisville did have some .40 100-round WWB value packs this morning - but it was the only handgun caliber there. I don't even on a .40 anymore, but picked up 3 boxes (with tax, $90.62) just to have a little more around the range since some students lately have not been able to find the stuff before their 101 or CHL class!

Found this during my morning research, according to Mr. Dietz the ammo shortage should subside soon...

He claims that it should subside soon, but offers no facts, or reasoning on why he believes this is so.

Precisely, I guess the squiggly face was not the right one to convey my tone. Maybe this one.

There was no handgun ammo at either the Academy or the WalMart in Lufkin at midday today.

The ammo reps at GT Distributors were also telling me they are seeing signs of the ammo shortage ending soon. Their reasoning is based on contact with the manufacturers and how fast they are seeing their orders delivered.
I would not think next month, but I expect the shortage to be pretty much caught up by the end of the summer.
