None of the States business really.

Seems funny to me that the "State" feels it has the right to dictate that we may or may not "carry" in Church. What suddenly happened to "separation of Church and State."

Additionally, the last time I checked...Churches are privately owned. This being the case, it makes sense that they should be required to post the 30.06 sign in order to comply with the law the same as any other privately held business or property.

I can tell you this much: My Church has no problem at all with its law abiding members "carrying" if they wish. And this is an SDA Church!

Flintknapper. The info I have is that churches do have to post a 30.06 sign if they want to give the bad guys a gun free kill zone. Our church has several members w/ a CHL. The lady that was there today is a member. Another family will probably be at the next one. I know of 2 more. How many carry every Sunday. I know one for sure. 8) Past that I have to guess. My policy & many on this forum is 24-7 if legal. No 30-06 sign on a church I go armed. I play a guitar & the wife sings so we make a lot of different churches for country & bluegrass gospel singings. Mouse gun but better than nothing. Kel-tec P-32. Ask Charles or some of the guys here about the statutes & they will PM you so you can file it in your personal stuff. Welcome aboard.

Here's the statute you are referring to with regard to carrying in church.
If a church is not posted - with a "legal" 30.06 sign, you may carry there.
note the reference in subsection (i), which applies to, among others, (b) (6) below):

PC §46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE
HOLDER.
(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally,
knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority
of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of
whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's
person:....

(6) on the premises of a church, synagogue, or other established
place of religious worship.
.......
(h) It is a defense to prosecution under Subsection (a) that the
actor, at the time of the commission of the offense, displayed the
handgun under circumstances in which the actor would have been
justified in the use of deadly force under Chapter 9.
.....
(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor
was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.

For the entire statutes click on http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/ls-16.pdf

Hope this helped.

Got it.

Thanks guys, that clears it up for me.

Over the years, I've heard it was not legal to carry in a church, then it was, then it wasn't..........

Now I know.

WHY WOULD YOU CARRY IN CHURCH? Because in Baptist Churches there are Deacons!!! I have been a Pastor in a Baptist Church in Irving for six years. I have always carried. My Assistant Pastors carry. My Church Treasurer caries. And that I know of several ladies carry. The last six years I have baptized over 1300 converts and I have carried each and every time into the Baptistry. That is why God gave us waders. AMEN!!!

You carried while conducting a baptism??? I love that!

If I'm up in Big D soon visiting...I'll have to stop by on that Sunday...

Ohhh, make sure your "microphone" in there is grounded...I heard a bad story recently about a minister who died when he was in the baptistry and adjusted the mic...FYI...

I have to say that I am proud of Carlson1. His church would seem to represent a realistic approach to scriptural admonishments to take care
of each other.
I do not attend regularly, which will probably catch up with me in the long
run, but, I do not think I could attend where the right to carry was restricted.

ALL CHL's are welcomed. To be honest I hold the view that it EVERYONE'S moral obligation to have a CHL. I call it Carlson's Theology. Does not mean much though. :D

FYI, I just read in a magazine (technologies for worship) that the final report was released and the fault did not lie in the sound system. The sound system was properly installed and grounded. The problem was in a faulty baptistry heater that shorted and sent an approximate 80v charge into the water. All was fine until the pastor touched the microphone completing the circuit and allowing the voltage to pass through his body and into the properly grounded sound system.

I am the Technical Director at my church and followed that story very closely.

I also carry at church nearly every time I am there. The only times I don't is when I am going there straight from work where I am not allowed to carry and don't trust the safety of the parking lot to hold my weapon in my locked car.

I am also aware of one church that specifically posts 30.06 to disarm people and prepare them to become victims. Fellowship Church in Grapevine Texas has 30.06 signs posted at every public entrance.

The preacher or our small congregation doesn't carry, but approves of folks who do. I know of at least two people who do carry during the services  with his blessing. He also appreciates it when he's invited out to the range with us.

We need a pastor in the very small country Church where I go. Maybe if a good prospect comes along, I should tell him that a current CHL is required.
:)
