The Neanderthals get a bad rap. They survived over 200,000 years through the ice ages in Europe. The made tools and clothing, cared for disabled tribe members, and buried their dead,

I think a lot of these modern specimens are the results of maternal drug and alcohol abuse and malnutrition.

The above is a short video of a Bloomington, New Mexico police chase
that was ended by a PIT maneuver, but then the officer who pinned the
perp's car in got in a vicious gunfight, through glass, with the bad guy.

I had seen another version of this somewhere that was better, but I could
not find that one.

In this one, the bad guy raises his gun to shoot, but sloppy editing makes the
shootout kind of chopped up. When the police rounds start impacting the bad guy
and his car, the bad guy kind of covers his head and slouches down in the driver's seat.

The officer was shot, the bad guy was shot, and they both survived. Now the bad guy
gets to brag about his street smarts for 25 years in a New Mexico prison.

In La Crosse, Washington (not Wisconsin), a 69-year-old man tried to help out a grifter, buying the bum gas and giving him a meal. The bum returned the favor by stealing the man's wallet and fleeing. The victim and several of his relatives chased the thief, tackled him, and left him hog-tied in the middle of the street.
The sheriff said that they don't recommend citizens taking these kinds of measures to apprehend someone but in this case it did help them collar a criminal.

Taylor, Michigan (Detroit area), Tuesday, a 68-year-old woman was leaving a grocery store at night when a punk tried to snatch her purse. She resisted, and an accomplice of said punk assaulted her. The men got into a car while she was still holding her purse and dragged her a short distance. She suffered a heart attack, and the criminal masterminds got away. She is recovering in the hospital.

Haven't run across one of these in a while...

In Solano Beach, California (San Diego area), last week, a man attacked a woman with a knife in the elevator of her apartment building.

She screamed, fought back, and escaped with minor injuries. The perpetrator fled.

Scream, kick, bite, poke the eyes, puke if you don't have another weapon. I don't give much advice in this vein, but cooperating with rapists and kidnappers rarely turns out well.
