Gabe Suarez wrote an article about a Brazilian police officer who stated JHP's are outlawed in his country.

Gabe was shocked to discover this officer had been in quite a number of firefights and had shot a number of bad guys dead with FMJ's.

So, it works for the military and the police.

Is it ideal - no.

Does it work - yes.

If you can find, or know, a living WWII or Korean combat Veteran, ask them how well FMJ bullets work.

Back to the OP: I, like you, prefer .45 ACP 'cause it's a big round with a good deal of mass behind it, and it travels at subsonic speeds. I use high quality 230-grain JHPs in my carry gun because the +P and the expected expansion are a force multiplier. But I expect a .45-inch bullet to be a .45-inch bullet regardless of what happens with the expected expansion. And I expect a .45-inch bullet traveling at subsonic speeds to be less a threat for over-penetration than a smaller bullet traveling faster. Ergo, if I were to carry .45 ACP in FMJ, I would not feel under-gunned in any way.

That's just me and my opinion, not a caliber war.

Truth is--perhaps barring handgun hunting loads like .454 Casull, .460 Rowland, or .500 S&W Magnum--common pistol calibers are all underpowered and inefficient fight-stoppers. But they're the best we can carry and use in a small tool.
