Nacogdoches PD task force was "famous" for this not too many years ago. Basically, if you were headed North on 59 in a "rental" (look for little green E sticker on bumper) you were going to be followed and likely stopped.
We can "what if" or "maybe he" all we want...but chances are great..it was a profile stop.
If there was a "rental" car sticker on the windshield or bumper he probably saw it. If I am not mistaken, in Texas a rear-end collision, no matter what the reason, is always the fault of the rear-ender (No laughing here).
You are correct. If you rear end someone, it is your fault, as you are supposed to leave ample distance and time between the vehicles to safely stop.

Yep; an associate once put a cruiser up under a pickup when he was working for a nearby department. He claimed the driver he was behind did it on purpose. Without any further investigaiton, the sheriff pretty much told him to shut up and use his time off to gain an understanding of the term "safe following distance," while the department paid for the damage.Russell wrote:B.
