Oh, point granted! I was going to make some mention of that aspect in my comments but just forgot it. Maybe instead of think of ourselves as "good guys", we ought to think of ourselves as the "lucky ones as yet undetected by LEO's"

yep , if i got caught doing half the stuff i did , i would be under the jail .

but that was a long time ago .
now a days , the worst thing i do is maybe test the speed limits once and a while .

FWIW, everyone should be treated with respect, unless you have specific knowledge for why they are not deserving of it.

The paradox is that this includes potential bad guys. Unless I observe an perpetrator in action, or unless I have advance knowledge of that person's character, I have no way of knowing A) whether the other person is a BG or not; B) whether the other person is carrying a gun or not, assuming that it is properly concealed; and C) whether or not the other person holds a CHL or not. Although I respect a CHL holder for what they have done to get their CHL, that doesn't mean that I respect CHL holders anymore than I respect anyone else. My closest friend, whom I admire and respect tremendously, is a probate attorney in California who does not hold a carry permit. I love him like a brother. I try to treat all people respectfully. Of course, at the first sign of "hinkiness," my respect for the other person goes down, even while my outward expression of the same may not show it.

BTW, "respectfully" doesn't mean that you get treated like you were my best friend. I don't let my guard down around you unless I know you well. But one can keep their guard up and still be pleasant and courteous to another. Ask a cop. They do it all the time.

I have no problem with that at all. There just isn't room to cover every aspect of the topic in these brief posts. These are all good points and I probably would have gotten around to them if I was writing an essay - but this forum just doesn't accommodate a long dissertation on the subject. But I agree with your comments.
BTW - just returned from a visit to one of the larger gun shops in Houston and at the front door was this sign: "No loaded guns past this point - CHL holders exempt". Now that is the sort of thing I'm talking about.

The Arms Room has a similar one to that and a sign at ProDefense says "All unholstered guns must be open and unloaded"....walked right past that one too

You can wish that people respect you or some group you're a part of more all you want. Kind of pointless though 'cause they won't unless they want to. We're not gonna legislate it or force anyone to, it is what it is. I wish people respected left-handed people more. People can like me, hate me, be indifferent, whatever. As long as they don't try to hurt me or take my stuff, it's not a big deal and I'm not willing to invest effort in changing the casual bystander's opinion of myself, or of some group I'm a part of.

I also think that CHLs and lefties should get discounts at all stores. Except if I'm running a store in the future and am barely scratching by on paper-thin profit margin, then I think I should be exempt from discounting anyone. Realistically, the only reason to discount is because you want to preferentially attract a certain type of customer, likely due to a perceived benefit TO YOU or your store. LEOs typically get 50% off at restaurants because the restaurants value having a uniformed cop around their place... they probably have the idea that it might reduce the likelihood of trouble. I guess you could hope for the same from CHL holders, but I'm pretty sure CHL holders don't have the same impact on crime reduction as the presence of a uniformed officer. Otherwise, CHL holders are just (hopefully) a pleasant group to do business with.

As to the anti-gun guy at work, I think I'd just walk by his office EVERY day at 5 and say, "Wow, another day with no one shooting another person over lack of post it notes... amazing!" Do that every day for a year or three and see if he doesn't wear down.
