The Oldgringo didn't conceive the OP, he merely shared it; however, here's a poke at answering your two questions:
7. medical care and retirement and housing and franking and travel and any other side monetary benefits/allowances, etc.
8. speaking engagements & consulting contracts & board memberships, etc.
How's that for starters?

7. I can see medical care, housing, franking and travel being valid expenses during their terms (assuming we do impose term-limits). No need for retirement or retirement medical in that case. While on active duty the military gets all of the above (except franking), so they should too.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

You might be surprised at all the laws congress exempts itself (or the whole federal government) from.
When they do that, it's proof positive they know it was a bad law. The 1985 homeland defense gun ban springs to mind.
