If the drugs he uses had been legal, he would still be an addict and would still be homeless most of the time. Unless they were free for the taking, addicts would still degenerate to the point they have no job and no money to buy them. The problem of crime to obtain drugs would still exist. The crackhead would still stick a gun in your face for your money.

Sure, some people commit crime to buy a pack of smokes or a bottle of booze, but for them most part, even the poorest homeless people can scrounge up enough cash to buy a $5 pack of cigarettes without resorting to armed robbery. There is nothing inherently expensive about the manufacturing and distribution of illegal drugs. The only thing that makes it more expensive than Camels and Jack Daniels is that it is in fact illegal.

Arsenic is naturally occuring too. The pot people smoke is not the wild variety for the most part. These are carefully cultivated, bred and altered from their natural form.

So is the corn, soy and most of the vegetables that you buy at the grocery store. They're all genetically engineered by Monsanto. So what?

I was answering another who commented that pot was a natural substance. I was pointing out that the degree of "high-ability" is not naturally occurring. The Monsanto engineering is to make the vegetables more insect resistant. if the sole purpose of the monsanto engineering (which btw, I am not in favor of either) were to make the corn to get you addicted so as to make you buy more and more and do anything to get it, then there might be a comparison.
