Before I got my CHL, I never had to wait more than 10 minutes.

If a gun store insisted on doing the NIC check on me after I showed them my CHL, the purchase would be canceled by me on the spot. There are many places one can buy a gun. There is no reason to give my business to an anal retentive establishment.

On the secondary topic...I went through a 6 month period where I was getting a delay every time I went to buy a gun. I finally realized it was because I had not put Jr. on my application and it was causing some kind of flag. The gal that caught it, called right back in after she added Jr. It went right through. This was, of coarse, before I got my CHL.

Not to get too off topic, I went to the range there last weekend and I noticed that they used to have a sign that read something to the effect of "Silhouette targets are not allowed." -- but the 'not' had been taped over (the sign was behind a glass frame, so it wasn't just someone being funny.) When I walked out, I asked the guy working the holster area about IWB holsters, and he rolled his eyes. He said "It's corporate policy that Bass Pro is a family store, we don't carry anything concealed carry related. I don't agree with it, but ah well." I thought to myself, what's not "family oriented" about protecting yourself and your family?

Fun fact, you cant shoot silhouette targets in Massachusetts.

I am afraid to ask the thinking behind this law. Interesting and not at all surprising. I am absolutely amazed that those folks voted anyone other than a Democrat to fill Ded Kennedy's seat.

Never knew there was a waiting period since the one time I bought a gun and had to do the Brady bill nonsense (1997) I have not, as yet, received my CHL but I have, since December 2009 and today, purchased 5 handguns (I returned a Kel-Tec P-11 and replaced it with a Glock-26) and a Bushmaster AK-15(M-4) and only had to wait a few seconds while a phone call was made, I walked out of the store with my purchase in hand every time. Being a female, if I had to wait 3 days, I might change my mind and just tell them to forget it and go buy myself another pair of boots instead.

If they call it in can you wait until you pass and then change your mind?

I suppose you could. Expect most dealers to charge you $10-$15 for the NICS if the sale doesn't go through, for any reason.

Based on signs I see at gun shows. No first hand knowledge.

I have a CHL so if a dealer makes an unnecessary NICS call and tries to charge me for their incompetence, they'll lose the sale.

The situation presented was backing out of the purchase after the NICS was done. I have seen dealers post signs that they will charge a fee if the sale doesn't go through.

Does that mean even if the NICS check denies you, you still have to pay the fee? I understand charging the fee if you just get cold feet at the last moment, but the denial is beyond your control. Well, assuming you didn't KNOW they were going to deny you, anyway.

I have seen those signs too, and I refuse to do business with those dealers. They are not charged a fee to call NICS, so what are they charging me for? Their time? That's a pretty hefty fee for 5 minutes. I've never seen a gun show deal I couldn't pass up, and find something else comparable.

Exactly how would they enforce that? Just walk away if you are denied.
