Sorry to say, last time I was at the range is when I was shooting for my CHL. With the holidays, day job, and weather around here it has been real easy to find excuses. :(

Looking at next weekend of going and possibly trying the range up off of 105 in Conroe (owner posted to the forums somewhere in here) instead of going to Thunder Guns.

If anyone is interested would not mind the company.

Took several days to work through the backlog.

Last weekend I shot my carry gun for the first time since August. I have shot my AR and Shotgun in between that time doing some local matches, but didn't get around to the range for any handgun work.

Way too long it's been about 10 weeks. Was going to go this week but couldn't find my ark. I need to give my 2 .40 cals a run to see if the warranty parts have fixed them.

I bought a season membership at the local shooting range, so in an effort to get my monies worth, I go at least once a week sometimes 3. I don't stay very long when the weather is cold or rainy but I do empty at least a box of ammo (50) even on those BAD days. After going out this past Friday and almost becoming a popcicle, I may now wait til the weather gets a tad warmer and less windy. Summer in these parts is just around the corner. At least now I know I can still shoot a gun even if my hands & body are cold. We do not always get the ideal shooting conditions in our daily lives so I consider this all GOOD practice.

Too long. Between Christmas and New Years. Have been to the ranch a couple of times since then, but was leased out to hunters and didn't do any shooting so I wouldn't scare off the deer for them.

bigolbigun wrote:I thought I would throw out this question and see how long it has been since you took your daily carry weapon to the range for some practice? I know many members on here practice weekly or at least once a month.

I hate to admit it but, I realized this morning that it has been 8 months since I have done any range work. I have a myriad of reasons and excuses of why I have not found the time to go and practice. I have thought about it, or planned to go several times but for whatever reason I have not made it to the range. It seems like something else always comes up. I feel it is a disservice to myself and my family that I have not been practicing and improving my carry and shooting skills. My personal protection, and that of my family is why I carry in the first place.

So feel free to "let me have it" for my lack of practice. Or share with me how you are able to squeeze range time into your busy schedule.
You can do dry fire practice at home, which is as effective as going to the range and doesn't take much time. Practice drawing from holster, aiming, shooting from different positions are can be done at home (unloaded pistol).

Go to the range w/ some friends or pick one of the (now less frequent) CHL forum meets (which always include a range trip). I think if you make the range trip more interesting than just practicing, you'll find more time for it.

If you have a Sat/Sunday free, you can also go try an IDPA match w/ your carry gear. Although it is a game, it can make shooting fun and get you practicing more often.

But don't be too hard on yourself. I've gone almost as long as you have w/o firing a pistol, and I know many who's gone longer.

I went today and ran 200 rounds of cheapo Remington UMC through my brandy-new SA XD9 subcompact that I picked up at the gun show on Saturday :biggrinjester: Oh yeah, and a few Speer Gold Dot +P 124 gr. as well.

Happy to report, not a single FTE or FTF. Gun did bite me once as I'm not used to shooing a subcompact and pinched the ring finger on my shooting hand REAL good when inserting the mag without the grip extender. I got a REAL nice blood blister to prove it.

Just got done cleaning and oiling, and contemplating another trip to the range tomorrow for some more :fire :fire

Finally made it out and ran a box through my PT140 so new mag release and spring has it back in carry rotation, but sad to say slide lock spring did not help my Kahr so it gets to go on vacation back to the land of it's birth. Was having such a good time that I wound up running through a box of 380, 9mm, 357, and 45lc made for a nice long change of pace to the jobsearch grind but even more expensive than a round of golf would have been.

It's only been a week, and I hope to go again tomorrow! :thumbs2:

However, I had not practiced for about a year prior to last week. Due to both an illness and a lack of .45 WWB at the local WW. I had resolved to consistently carry my Kimber UC II, but I have not been able to get enough ammo to get the pistol to run correctly. :mad5

However, I have a new pistol du jour that I enjoy a lot. It's a 9mm, I can get ammo for it, and I hope to get back on a once to twice a month practice schedule. :fire

I went on Sunday and it was 34 degrees outside. It was fantastic - no one else was at the gun range and I suspect no one will be there during the Super Bowl either. Great time to go (if you DVR the game)! :thumbs2:
