.45's make the biggest holes, so it wouldn't seem to be caliber-related.

I actually said not a modern fighting gun

yes I would rather have 18 rounds of +p 124g than 8 or 9 45s
I can field strip in 2 sec
I have less weight and can carry more ammo
I do not rust
I don't care much about cleaning
easy to detail strip and repair, fewer parts
more reliable and less finicky
no grip or hammer saftey

just look at how my little smilie keeps firing his Glock

As my name would indicate, I am a huge fan of Springfield Armory pistols. The XD and XDM lines are excellent combat handguns. I have owned 5 and still own 2. I only carry a Glock 36 because the XD line does not come in a single stack variant. Of all the handguns I have ever owned, my XDM40 is my favorite to shoot. Shoot one for yourself and I think you will agree. Check out the XDTALK.com forum. Great guys over there who will answer any and all XD related questions. I am SpringerFan there also.

P.S. - Rumor has it that the XDM45 will be released in the next couple months.

Yeppers! No longer a rumor. It isn't on Springer's Website yet, but they've begun advertising it...at least the 4.5" variant.

Whats a combat handgun? Where are XDs being used in Combat?

Some police forces use XD's - ok not real combat

I have owned the XD40, very nice to shoot, but there are some design issues when it comes to striping the weapon and reassembly, also parts availability, i think only from the factory and its a pain to completely strip. some part can be put in wrong and will have to be drilled out or beat out

Having used 1911's in the Army and having owned one (before Glocks were invented) and having experienced malfunctions as part and parcel of 1911's, you couldn't give me one.

My experience with XD's is limited, but I can say I like how they shoot, however I prefer my Glock 19.

As for it's grip, some complain the grip is rather too much a handful. I find it just the opposite. A bit narrow for me, so I installed a Hogue Handall slip on type grip and now it's is just right.

P.S. The 1911 fans aren't wrong about their favorite pistol as there really isn't a "right or wrong" in the equation. For my take however, the 1911, much like the B.A.R. (a fine weapon in it's day) has been surpassed in a wide variety of categories by modern pistols such as the XD or Glock and others... Let's face it, when horseless carriages came along, a lot of the old timers during the transition had a hard time adapting, pointing out the deficiencies of that loud, four wheeled monstrosity as opposed to their beautiful hay burners...

I only use "combat" to differentiate from plinker, safe queen, or other non "fighting" handgun. Sorry for the confusion.

My brother has some customers that are special forces and shoot XDM-40's. As I understand it, they like the 40's mass and velocity for shooting at BG's in fleeing vehicles.

i saw a post on the facebook page for "xd fans" that a guy is warning about the roller pin, located on top of the slide by the +1 indicator... he says his broke on a new gun. wondering if he is a member here or if anyone has heard about it being an issue?

The only thing I've ever heard of breaking on an XD was the "cocked indicator" which didn't affect the function of the gun.

There are quite a few issues with the grip safety in this thread, along with other reasons, this is why I sold my XD and went with Glocks.
That said, there are plenty of happy XD owners
