Along those same lines is the Maxpedition Fatboy Versipack. I have one (the Fatboy S-Type, for left handers), and it has served me well — teasing after a church service from my pastor for carrying a "purse," notwithstanding. (I'm pretty sure he figured there was a gun in there. I think he was just putting me on the spot for fun, because he didn't keep it up for too long.)

The one complaint I have about this method of carry is that the ease of drawing the weapon is never as easy as the pictures make it look. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm pulling out a 5" 1911 or a 642 Airweight snubbie. I have large hands, and the zippers never open wide enough to make it quite as smooth as drawing from some kind of holster.

The pack I have will also go on the belt loops and the strap is removeable. What I do like is since the zipper allows access from the top, when warranted, I can unzip and put my hand in the pack grasping my handgun while still concealing the handgun.

j/k of course, but allows me a chance to post one of my favorite lines from the "Police Academy" series of movie farce, one character speaking about police cadet Bubba Smith (the ex football player):

"If all the cops looked like him, there wouldn't be any crime."

Well, just because I am a large fellow doesn't mean that I can fend off a cracked out junkie everytime and walk away everytime. Some times you get the bear and one time maybe the bear gets you! I have kids, a career, a wife, a business and a lot to live for.

Also, most of us will never need our guns to protect ourselves. But I think its a lot like voting. Even though many of my Canidates don't win I vote because I can. So I carry because I can.

I see a little humor here.

I know guys on both sides of the weight and shape spectrum who claim that their specific body type makes it harder to conceal.

Big guy sentiments:
"I need all the room in my waistband for my waist."
"My girth pushes the gun into the shirt and prints."
"My belt has enough responsibility keeping my pants up."
"I hate buying this size pants. . . I'm not voluntarily going up another one!"
"Those skinny guys can just strap any gun on they want. There's room between their skin and shirt. They have it easy."

Skinny guy sentiments:
"My shirts either hug tight or billow awkwardly. There's no way to put a gun in there."
"I have to buy smaller pants just to keep them up without sagging. No room for guns in their comfortably."
"I have no padding. . . the gun rubs against bone and hurts."
"Those big guys can just strap any gun on they want. It gets lost in their amorphous shape. They have it easy."

I wonder which side is right. Maybe it's just hard to start wearing a gun when you're not used to it. I still need to get a good gun belt - but I'm trying to lose weight right now, so I want to hold out until I'm in my final range before investing the money.

I am 5'9" and 220 with a non-athletic build. (beer gut) I wear a G36 in a Super Tuck very comfortably for 14-16 hours a day. Takes some experimentation to find just the right spot, but once you do there is no better IWB holster for us big guys. If you can't get used to IWB carry, several manufacturers make OWB holsters for concealed carry that hold your pistol high and close to your body. Good luck on your quest.
