It also showed a good sized sign on the entry lane "CHL here". They may as well put a hunter orange
pirate hat on your head. If you were trying to be discrete.
I think metal detectors at the Texas capital is totally unnecessary and a huge waste of tax payer money.
If our state legislators are that afraid of the voting population............
What's next? Removal of footwear, belts etc etc.....airport style security?

According to Charles Cotton's post, CHL holders go through the SAME line as employees. I would expect most folks going through that line to be employees.

According to Charles Cotton's post, CHL holders go through the SAME line as employees. I would expect most folks going through that line to be employees.

Correct; the line is for employees and CHL's and as you say, the ratio of employees to CHL's will be huge. Except of course when 3,000 lobbyists get a CHL so they can avoid the long lines!

my point was a sign "CHL here". Discrete? No. And your point is CHL goes through one of the 4 entrance lines available to

BTW, is there anything to be amended this next session to SB501, to account for this "change"???

I am no fan at all of "special" treatment or screening procedures for CHL's in any government building (like the Public works building in Houston, as an example)...I am pulled aside, asked the caliber of my weapon (for their records), what my business is, when I am carrying project plans for signatures right in front of them...And I am "specially" badged if I go to visit my city counselman...All of this AFTER SB501 was passed into law...

Now this???

If the solution is to have a special line for CHL's to pass through, is it still through a metal detector or wanding anyway??? How absolutely assinine!!! But no disrespect to the effort to get this implemented as a solution to the nervous ninnies in that facility...I just believe this is a band-aid fix...

These are the initial thoughts I have on this...I may have a few more, depends on my blood sugar level, and my general attitude...

The folks we have reciprocity with???

Their "plastic" may be a little different than our domestic "plastic"...Their info may not be readable by our system...

Are they going to be subjected to an embarassing, and public scrutiny to have access to our state facility when they visit???

If their "plastic" is not compatable with our machines...

Just a thought...

That should work the same as out of staters carrying under LEOSA.

Or someone carrying under a fed badge (also not issued by Texas.)

Maybe this was a deliberate tactic by the State to increase both CHL numbers and revenue.

Guy at the store said it was High Caliber is why it costs so much.
So I think it must be a 99 or 100 prolly unless they gots higher ones, cause this BBQ iron cost me a'plenty.

The Statesman (unauthoritative as it is), specifically refers to "Texas" CHL holders going through. I'm sure Charles knows, but are out-of-state CHL holders treated the same as Texas CHLs?

That's not possible. A Texas CHL will swipe their license and it instantly confirms an active CHL by sending a query to DPS computers. This isn't possible with out of state licenses.

Its actually a move that protects us.
A few months ago, a man with a gun went into the Capital building, and got into discussion with some folks in a Reps office. There shots fired outside on the steps. There was a huge uproar. Our Reps and Senators were all upset and even the conservative leges were calling for stricter security measures. They were going to do something, and this it seems is the least restrictive. measure that would have satisfied the the lege. Remember they were rightfully scared at what had just happened in January. I don't think is over. Some of them will likely call for stricter controls when they meet next year. Lets all hope that they have calmed down and it doesn't go anywhere.

The magnetic strip only has room for a limited amount of information.. Probably just our CHL or Drivers licence number. The computer then does all the work, by calling up the DPS computers it can pull our pictures date of birth and expiration dates. But there is no reason to have any data on the back strip than there is on the front. The agency doing the scanning is the very same one that collected the data when we applied. They have no reason to collect data at the entrances because they already have it. Although it is possible they keep a list of who is comming in and out of the gates. As long as the data stays solely in the realm of the DPS we shouldn't be to concerned.
