Never made it when I was younger, then I had kids and couldn't afford to back up in paygrade. But since I have been on Rick Perry's payroll at TWC I have been looking into it again. Everyone I had looked at before cut you off at 45 w/o being certified and having experience before. But I have recently heard from a recruiter that last week appointed a fifty-something to their next academy off the last eligibility list. Wife makes good money kids are grown and this could be the right time to give it a go. There are several in Northeast Tarrant County that do not have an age cap. As he said they can teach the procedures and law, but that life experiance is invaluable and and takes a long time to get.

The only bad part is I doubt I can get my tail in shape to pass the Physical Agility in time for the August test. The last time I did one was 35 years ago. Placed 5th out of 100 for 8 slots after PA and written then they added the vet points and i was way down the list. Then the second kiddo came along.

Health and brain can be ready tomorrow but that desk jockeying has my stamina way down. I might could be ready by the next session they run a 6 month list. I'd much prefer a mile and a half run in February in shape than August totally out of condition.

I was never active duty, except for OBC at Ft. Sill....just a "reserve puke."

In a previous life, I was a full time paramedic and volunteer firefighter. I now work in infectious disease research (virology) and enjoy that as well.

Or is it supposed to be another affirmative response so that all responders to the poll are LEO/military/first responders? (People who are LEO/military/first responders not otherwise classified choose that option and people who aren't LEOs, etc do not respond at all.)
I'm looking for the former, where people who do not fall into any of the categories above it, do select that one, but I do understand that some people will not answer the poll, either way. I was more doing it to get a very rough idea about percentages, and just how many of us fall into any of the categories. I admit it is completely unscientific and will not reveal any valid conclusions, but oh well ;)

Clarified the titles a bit more to help with this!

I draw no benefits, but as I understand it I can be recalled during a national mobilization, even after age 60 (as most retired folks can). I'm 68 right now and would gladly serve if called, but I'm afraid I'd never pass a military flight physical. Too many "gittin' old" issues. ;-)
But you still have the touch. I know this for a fact.
