If the guy had been shooting at cops while racing through heavy traffic for over an hour I could understand the short beating a bit better. But this was just some idiot who thought he'd run from the police when he doesn't even know how to ride the bike he's on. IMHO he was getting on the ground before they start beating him. I know things aren't always what they look like, but regardless, the premeditated beating is inappropriate.
I think everyone on this board is for criminals getting what they deserve, but I think this guy just freaked.

I'm sad that he was only beaten for 15 seconds. Should have been 15 minutes.
Well doggone. I always knew we were paying all those judges salaries court costs and incarceration costs for nothing. Just let the cops judge, sentence and administer whatever justice they deem appropriate right on the spot.
Actually yeah, we are. I have zero sympathy for morons that decide running from the police is the best course of action. Sorry if you don't agree

He stopped. Period. No beating should have started for any period of time. He should have been cuffed and stuffed.
If some believe that beatings are "deserved" than I simply don't understand the outcry when someone does decide to resist arrest. Hey, they are going to beat me anyway so why not get a little joy out of dishing some out on the police?

Purplehood you have pretty well summed it up.

Everyone here is missing the point.
IMO, the point is whether or not the video by itself is proof of abuse, and it is not.
The subject disappears from view prior to being engaged by the officers. The video does NOT show whether the subject was cooperating, OR resisting, OR reaching for a weapon on the ground. We can not see the actions of the subject, so we can't prove whether the officers use of force was necessary or not based only off of the video.

The article says that they have video from several squad cars and they interviewed 22 officers. So they are going off an anonymous tip from a fellow officer, numerous dash-cam videos, the victim's statements, the involved officers' discipline history and statements, and the statements of all the other officers who witnessed the event. Based on all that together, they are filing criminal charges. I don't think they have a level of ambiguity from one off-scene occurrence like we're seeing here.

“Pull up alongside him so I can beat the sh** out of him,” the officer says.
Not enough proof

If they're convicted, maybe they'll go work for LVPD.

Thanks for the update TKM. This reminds me of the 1991 Rodney king beating. That verdict didn’t go so well you may recall.
Well see what happens.

The police's job is not to mete out punishment.
The officers should be tried, and if found guilty, do jailtime for assault.

Huh?
If you are serious....then you'd better get down to DPD quick and apply, because odds are good they are going to be hiring after this stunt.
