Any instructor who advises to get a shiny CHL Badge that resemble LEOs shields must not be recommended as good instructor. Such act by CHLer could result in an arrest, a felony charge and lengthy ordeal.

Can we just wear the TexasCHLForum tiara to the PSC event, and leave our CHL tiara at home? Once we finish the safety brief we can don our sashes so that the range personnel know that we are good to go. Really, really good to go.

I'm in the application process to become an instructor. However, class probably won't be until next summer.
I won't be recommending badges to my students, however I'm also going to ask about them at class and see what the DPS lawyers have to say about the badges.

I have technicolor visions of you calmly going through the checkout at Tom Thumb wearing that tiara. And, NOBODY saying a thing to you.

Unfortunately, yes.

I would not condone the use or carrying of a CHL "badge" under any circumstances. We as CHL holders are not the police. Any LEO that has contact with us would view the badge as a possible attempt at posing as a police officer. Not a good idea. When I carry my gun, which is most all of the time, I try to remain small and innocuous.

Seriously, to truly have a "badge" one must have an object that is
1) assigned by an authority in a position to validate the credentials of that person,
2) is consistently identifiable and recognizable to those who need to recognize it, and
3) is used as identification under specific, defined circumstances.
I'm sure that we could come up with other criteria, but the bottom line is that it is used for personal identification and must be assigned, thus identifying the person with a specific organization. Self-assigned identifying items have no more importance than a business card.

I.e., it's no more effective than the toy badges we used to have as kids.
