We ARE often judged by the company we keep.
Maybe you should think of her. Guilt by association.

Which may be fortunate for those of us who married up.

Well, if your quick about it, signature line changes appear to effect old postings as well - just like avatar changes. Not that I would encourage questionable sigs.
Google's cached pages won't update the signature. Never assume you can retroactively cover yourself, and if you're under "discovery", such actions will remove the mantle of innocence.

Type like everything you type is forever. That being said, I still love my forum nickname. It is even on the back of my car.

Well, so far in this thread, I think my handle may be the least PC. It's a handle I picked up (long before the Warhammer game came out) while playing paintball. It kind of described my playing style: not a lot of finesse, but very effective brute force. My avatar used to be a picture of Mjöllnir, the legendary hammer of Thor. As for what it says about me if it came down to a defense shooting... I'm not really concerned. If anyone can point out where a clean defense shooting suddenly became questionable based SOLEY on the shooter's on screen name, I may begin to be concerned. I think the overwhelming preponderance of what you actually say online is more indicative of who you are than a simple one or two word monniker. Evil men will attempt twist your words, regardless of what you say. If you happen to be wearing a hat and boots when the shooting occurs, you could be styled as a "cowboy" looking for a shootout. If you use imagery like Excalibur, it could be said that you think of yourself as a holy sword meant to smite the wicked. Wear all black, and you think you're a ninja. If you own even one superhero t-shirt... At some point we just have to stop worrying about the vague possibilities, ignor what is or isn't PC, and just live our lives the best that we can.

Most screen names here are no issue at all, and any attempt to twist them into something they're not intended to convey would rightly appear pretty silly to most folks.
That being said, I think there could be some level of additional risk to using a screen name like "Vigilante" accompanied by an avatar of Charles Bronson and posts that advocate maximum use of force with minimal justification if that individual was later involved in a questionable incident.

If you are involved in a shooting and end up on the witness stand your handle and posts are the least of your worries.
Anygunanywhere (except in the courtroom which makes no sense at all since a lot of judges pack heat even with armed bailiffs in the room).
