If you are flipping off drivers or swearing in public, you're probably not fit to be a concealed weapon carrier anyway. The fact that it takes years to resolve them should be a strong incentive to behave yourself in public. I understand the desire to carry a weapon legally (obviously), but it comes with a certain level of responsibility. When you obtain a license to carry a loaded weapon in public, you represent an entire class of people whose right to carry is affected by your behavior. If you cannot accept that responsibility, then you should not be carrying a weapon. That responsibility includes notifying DPS when you move. If someone can't follow simple instructions like those, why should they be trusted with a loaded weapon?

As far as retaliatory accusations, those should be sorted out by the police fairly quickly. (And yes, I know it doesn't always happen that way.) But the possibility that a charge could be false should not negate the fact that someone who is charged with a crime should have that resolved before getting a license.

Why NOT issue the license in the meantime? Because there is a cloud over your head that needs to be cleared up. Considering that there are almost 500,000 other people carrying, shouldn't a new applicant be well vetted before receiving a license? It's not hard to stay out of trouble with the law. In most cases, people who get in trouble with the law could easily have avoided it by behaving differently or refusing to frequent those places where trouble is likely to occur. I think it's much likely for someone to be aggressively prosecuted than it is for someone to be charged with a crime for no reason whatsoever.

Please stay on the topic of the Utah bill.

Just for clarification, disorderly conduct is a Class C Misdemeanor, except for the offenses involving display or discharge of a firearm, in which case they are Class B Misdemeanors.

AND, Utah also will not issue the license if you have any current charges pending against you. You have to get those cleared up first, just like Texas.

It takes Gov. Perry a lot longer to sign bills into law, but I think it just takes him longer to read. As they say he isn't the swiftest kid on the block.

Didn't mean to be offensive. It was just a weak attempt at humor. Our bills take weeks and months before the governor signs them.. Utah was done so quickly. My Perry reference was about the press referring to him as a lightweight but having good hair.
I actually voted for Perry in the primary and general this year. But have a hard time resisting poking fun at those in power. I'll try not to let it happen again.

It's difficult for me to respond nicely to this ridiculous accusation. MANY on other sites I have been on have had nothing but negative to say about those holding a Utah CHL. To make such a 'global' statement, probably is a little harsh, and for that I apologize. Only one person, an LEO, backed up his comments with facts, and not just opinions or crap. This isn't about me. I have my lic. I can go get a Texas lic. if I choose to do so. But when there are so many that want to spew inaccurate info. about others, it's hard to swallow. I would rather those that do not know, or their opinion is so harsh, to just keep their mouth shut and let's help each other. I have my lic. to protect myself and my family. I can only hope that any of us are there when needed to protect those that can't or choose not to.
My time online isn't to attach others, but not to listen to inaccurate info. either.

It's not a coincidence that Lon "Utah Problem" Burnam is F-rated by the NRA.
