But I also guess I need to find a better t-shirt. I have tried both Hanes and the fruit guys (yeah, I'm a cheapo Wal-mart kinda guy) - both of which claim 'Generous Length' and both of them disappoint in the category.
So anyway, we will see if a person can change after 40+ years and become an undershirt guy ...
Never wore them until I started carrying. Started wearing them solely to help keep the sweat off my handgun.

Well that does it for me. I'm in. How but under shorts? Do I have to start wearing those too?

I used to me a non-undershirt guy, except for my time in the army in uniform. I now use Under Armour tank tops. I have white and black. I love them. I work outside for a living, and they don't make me hotter. Because of the way the tanks fit around my torso, I don't have issues with them coming un-tucked; even though I'm very active. I highly recommend them. The only downside is that they're $20 a pop. They're all I wear now, though, and I wear them year round. They're great for keeping a gun off my skin, and they make sweat less irritating on my skin in the summer.

Here at work, I wear the sleeveless Ts under my scrubs. I like the ones from Academy. BCG, I think they are. And long, so I don't show my seedy underbelly.

Terry, you've seen me. I sweat like an overheated hog during summer - undershirt or not. So I figure that wearing one A) helps to keep sweat off my gun and holster, and B) absorbs sweat so that it isn't running down my body into uncomfortable places.
BTW, lately, I'm pretty happy with the Dickies t-shirts I've found at Walmart.

Check out JCPenney's. Their Stafford brand come in tall in both the crew neck and vneck.
I am a t-shirt guy, always have been for many reasons, CC being one. The most important was that I would rather through out a $10 t-shirt for pit stains than a $50 dress shirt...

I made it through last summer wearing undershirts. There were a few days (just a couple) that I think the undershirt made it hotter - BUT, it was still more comfortable because of the sweat management. Only problem is constantly having to re-tuck them in in the back.
I tried several different t-shirts, and was still struggling to find a brand that was long enough. Although I checked JCPenny's a few times, it seemed they never had large, tall, in v-neck. So I never got to try the Stafford.
Finally last week I tried Croft & Barrow at Kohl's and I hit the jackpot!!!!

Pretty significant difference! Pack of 6 for $34.00 but usually on sale for less. I will picking up more very soon.

I'm 46. Never wore a t-shirt except in the Corps too. Last summer I tried wearing a t-shirt under my regular shirt. I'm out in the heat all day and I'd swear the t-shirt keeps me cooler. Not sure if it's physics or "mental" but I plan to keep wearing it. Also hear it helps with holster issues too. Glad you found one that fits.

I think there is something to it. When I was working as a service technician in hot attics all day I realized the T-Shirt under my button up shirt acted as an evaporative cooler of sorts. It also helped control body odor so the home owners didn't gag while writing a check for the repairs.

I wear a wife beater in the summer because most of my summer shirts are tee shirt or sleeveless. I sometimes change to a tee shirt in the winter but only if I am wearing a long sleeve shirt and thats not very often.
Both make carrying more comfortable as well as it helps out when I am on the bike.

I carry in a shoulder holster that I got from deepconceal.com. it is
made of light canvas and held on with velcro. A "wife beater"
shirt under the holster makes for a much better carry. A cowboy shirt with snaps
a size larger than I usually wear over the holster and under shirt gives good
concealment and access
