The people I have caught in the act of committing a felony have not been cooperative enough to "cuff themselves"
YMMV. If anyone wants a go, I will bring a few sets of cuffs, and we take turns trying to get cuffs on someone safely...
I think ditch the cuffs and use something a little more user friendly like OC, or a whistle.

I have seen this happen in a couple of TV shows and movies. It worked for them.

This might be a good demo for the upcoming CH licensee
and get-together which is to be held in the DFW area in mid-May?

If I didn't KNOW I'd get hurt, I'd volunteer to let "average people" (not officers/LEOs) TRY to cuff me (Not only am I extremely hard to cuff (for an untrained/inexperienced person) due to knowing things,
but I can also remove them by myself ...
I have no left hand) .... but I pass.

Leave the real cuffs at home if you have any, or if you own none.... get fur-lined padded ones for spouse/girlfriend.

Still think it is a BAD idea to have anyone at gun point when police show up.
If you need to pull it, use it. Seek safety. Wait there. Holstered if possible.

Yeah if the police show up and you have a gun out, you will become threat numero uno.

You should already called 911, told the operator that you are holding some BG on gun point and stay on the line with 911.

The only problem with that is that sometimes the dispatchers do not completely relay ALL of the information. I have learned this from experience.

That was the thought running through my mind from the OP up to yours. I have heard more than one person remark that people who carry concealed are wannabe cops. There is no reason to add proof to the fire.

If you must restrain someone, your best bet is to do it in a way that doesn't require so much intimate contact; barricade them in a room, a car trunk, whatever, but getting close enough long enough to put cuffs on them is asking for trouble.

For that matter - why stop at restraints? Why not carry a radio or at least a scanner. :)

Hehe. That's the kind of LEO I could carry around.
My concern with trying to detain someone at gunpoint is this: What do you do if they call your bluff and make a run for it? I would let them go, as opposed to shooting a fleeing suspect in the back.

Who says its a bluff? if we are in my house, I dont know if I would be able to tell the difference between retreat and aggression fast enough to spend the time dwelling on it.
