With the hangover I have this morning I'm in no mood to see a study like this.

heavy alcohol use?

ok, they busted me.
Although I only have a half shotglass of wine yearly at communion, I do buy a case of rubbing alcohol and keep it in the house.

In the days before we owned an air conditioner, mom rubbed it on our legs so we could be cooler and fall asleep in the Summer .

My grandad, who lived to be 99-and-a-half used peroxide and rubbing alcohol on cuts scrapes etc but refused to see doctors.

Sometimes I use the rubbing alcohol as a disinfectant cleaner on surfaces instead of buying expensive Lysol or whatever...

Yes, I guess I'm a heavy alcohol user, .... but I don't drink.

Myth ... Busted

or have confronted another person with a gun are more than twice as likely to drink heavily as people who do not own guns, according to a study by UC Davis researchers
I assume that includes cops, who historically had a high rate of alcoholism. I assume that includes crime victims who shot criminals and, like some cops, turned to alcohol to cope.

I assume it also includes drug dealers, gang members, and other illegal gun users.

...engaged in dangerous behavior with their weapons. For example, gun owners who also drove or rode in motor vehicles with loaded guns...
I thought that having a loaded gun in the car was just being prepared? As for the drinking and gunning...not for me.

I once crossed a street without anyone holding my hand while wearing my gun concealed...I also rode a bicycle armed once without wearing my bicycle helmet and heavy jeans and boots and kneepads and gloves. The other night, I went to the kitchen without turning on the light and could have tripped and fallen.
I should be more careful.... I'll quit shaving ... those razors are dangerous.

If I plotted two variables, crime rate and number of churches in a city, we would observe that as one increases, so does the other. Novices would be tricked into believing that fact meant that either as churches increase, so does crime. Or the other way, as crime increases, so does the number of churches.

But those interpretations are wrong, though. In fact, the third factor driving both factors is...population size. But we can't tell that form a simple correlation.

A serious study such as that one deserves a more serious response than I can deliver myself...
