Speaking as someone who has indepth experience dealing with State Fair personnel mentality ..... I URGE YOU TO NOT CALL THE FAIR PARK ADMINISTRATION. Carry away. You'll be fine.sugar land dave wrote:Taste of Dallas is being held in Fairpark according to online info. According to Fairpark's online rules, you may carry with your CHL.
"Rules and regulations
We want guests to have a great time at Fair Park. We also expect you to respect our home.
Guests to Fair Park should be mindful of the following:
...<snip>....
Weapons and sharp metal objects, such as pocket knives, scissors and the like, are not allowed. The State of Texas does allow a person holding a valid concealed handgun license to enter into Fair Park with a concealed handgun. However, during the State Fair of Texas and some other special events, licenses will be examined at the entrance by an authorized security supervisor. In accordance with Texas laws that protect “premises where a high school, collegiate or professional sporting event or interscholastic event is taking place," handguns are never permitted inside the Cotton Bowl.

You could also call the Fairpark administration phone number to verify that a lessor may not supersede Fairpark's online posted rules.

First of all, welcome to the forum, and please take what I write next as constructive criticism and not as an attack directed at you personally.........FastCarry wrote:here is the email chain, the response was simply "Yes" to a question.. to clarify what was said.

You have just learned a common but painful lesson; and that lesson is to refrain at all possible costs from educating someone unsympathetic to carrying that you intend to carry into their establishment—particularly when that establishment has communicated a no guns policy but does not have a valid 30.06 sign posted. The very LAST person you would have wanted to contact was anyone employed by Taste of Dallas, for the very reason that you risk receiving an unwanted notification. The law may be very specifically written as to what constitutes written notification, but this one of those things where if you are identified as carrying AND also as having been previously given written notice (even if that notice doesn't rise to the definitions in the law), and the cops are called, you probably won't beat the ride. The lawyer is going to get you off, but at a very stiff price. The reason you won't beat the ride is that the folks at Taste of Dallas are demonstrably ignorant, and that ignorance will make them call the cops, when they could have simply ask you to leave.
Worse yet, you may have put a bug into their heads that they need to examine their wording and be more specific.....even legal. Don't be surprised if they do post a valid 30.06 sign down the road because they have been inadvertently goaded into doing their homework.
The next time you have a question like this, you should ask it to a friendly audience, like an online CHL forum (I think there's one around here somewhere....), to find out if anybody knows what the deal is before you go and step in it. But, don't feel too bad about it. It's a mistake that is easy to make for the uninitiated. We just need to be crazy like foxes to overcome the prejudices that some folks have.
Also, check out http://www.texas3006.com, a website written by one of our members. They keep a database of all know sign postings, but it is dependent on reader contributions. So if you see a "no guns" sign (30.06 compliant or not) that isn't listed there, join and post it for the benefit of the other members.
And again, welcome to this forum. It's a pretty good place to hang out, and I think it has the best concentration of knowledge about CHL in Texas anywhere on the web.

Re: Taste of Dallas, CHL unwelcome
There's no point to doing that. An entity CANNOT give to a lessee, a right that it doesn't have in the first place. Therefore since Fairpark cannot prohibit firearms, it cannot pass to a lessee the right to prohibit firearms.sugar land dave wrote:

I wouldn't necessarily expect whoever answers the phone at "Fairpark Administration" to know that.
(An example is if I own some land, but don't have mineral rights to it, I cannot lease it to someone and write in the lease that they can drill for oil.)
Oh, and the "online posted rules" regarding this are NOT Fairpark's rules, they'er the state of Texas laws. Fairpark cannot post 30.06 because it's city property. Their wording makes it sound like Fairpark is allowing you to carry. That's not true. The State of Texas prohibits them from denying carry.

Re: Taste of Dallas, CHL unwelcome
Finally, someone who reads my posts! Now I would be happy to lease you some mineral rights to a piece of land. I don't own either, but I am sure we can come to a price.... No, just joking!
Fairpark's rules clearly state that CHL may enter, but may have to show their license at the gate. Sounds good to go unless you will be drinking alcohol.

That is how it works at the fair. I doubt they'll have security at this event.

It appears that Taste of Addison is held in a city park. You should have no problem carrying there.

Do not know about the rest of you but I am leery of crowds. If carrying was prohibited I would not attend.
