$530 for an XDM is a good price. You could also pick up a 1911 for less than that XDM.

I haven't read every reply.
Nevertheless, purchase the firearm of your choice first; that one based on you. Get familiar with it, strip it down build it up, shoot it and clean it. Make it YOURS. Your familiar. Practice, practice, practice.
Then, work around YOUR pistol.

I was one of those who took the CHL class first and rented several pistols at the range. Then I decided on what I wanted. The information that the instructor was able to add during the class also helped me to decide.

Gun first. Cant tell you how many people I have seen at range taking CHL class that cant safely handle there gun. Learn the gun and then get your CHL.

Your loved one's safety should not be considered a hobby. Sell a couple of those fancy computers and you should have more than enough "hobby" money to pay for a nice gun and your CHL maybe even enough to do the same for your wife.

I thought the wife was the one who insisted guns and CHL had to come out of his hobby fund.jmra wrote:Your loved one's safety should not be considered a hobby. Who cares where the money comes from as long as his family is protected. Perhaps he should buy a pair of pants while is at it.tbrown wrote:I thought the wife was the one who insisted guns and CHL had to come out of his hobby fund.jmra wrote:Your loved one's safety should not be considered a hobby. Re: Money is Tight
I have one computer for work. My wife has her computer (that SHE bought out of her bonus). For me, purchasing a firearm is a life or death thing. To my wife, I have to call it a hobby because she just doesn't get it.
As for who wears the pants in the family-I do.....when my wife says I can that is. Lol...

I wasn't such a fan of the 1911 when I fired it. I mean, some of them sure are purty pistols, but I'm just not into the caliber or the style. I like the poly guns.mrvmax wrote:$530 for an XDM is a good price. You could also pick up a 1911 for less than that XDM.

I agree, gun first. You can get your chl with a rent pistol at a lot of ranges but I would rather be proficient with my own.
