Thanks for posting! I remember reading your account of the story on here, but hadn't seen this article before.

I got a real kick out of this paragraph...

...you don't know what the guy might have had on him, but had time to dump before the po-po caught up to him...given his background and demeanor,I'm glad you were you...rather than some nice guy who thought it couldn't happen to him...or in his neighborhood...

Just remembering my dad. Dad always carried two wallets ... he didn't own a gun, it wasn't in case of being robbed ... he was a hoarder. He carried lots of junk he'd never need (He's the one who got me to wearing the 4 pocket shirts)
I'd love it if I tossed as robber a money clip and got to keep my ID/credit cards etc etc etc though. A money clip is really really thin so it's no problem (Well, mine is really thin... it's the economy)

My ~plan~ is, depending on the situation...If I can pull on the BG first, go for it. If he has a gun on me, pull out my wallet, pull out the cash, throw it and the wallet in two different directions and either run or pull. Situation and his reaction will determine.

I'm figuring 99% of the robbers don't really want your wallet, wallets are cheap; they want your money, a moneyclip with paper money should satisfy them, if they want my driver's license, credit cards, they should so state.

I used to have a thing on my credit cards so they would have to call for approval and they card company would ask the clerk if I was ONLY standing on my left foot, the clerk would chuckle and look, and say yes, and they'd get approval for the purchase.


I don't use ATM/Debit cards, ... they want $ I'll throw $ in a money clip to them and keep my wallet. If they take the money clip and still demand a wallet, I'll reach for something in or near a pocket ... not sure what might be in there ....

They can take the money, go to WalMart and buy several wallets if they want a wallet.

BOTH of my dad's wallets were like George's in the video, mine used to be. Now it's like the credit card/license holder in one pocket and a folding vinyl money clip in another. Out of 20 something credit cards I have and leave at home, I carry only the 2 I use and pay in full monthly which don't charge for Identity Theft/Fraudulent use. Much more comfortable.

My wallet is in my back right pocket. If a suspected bad guy says "give me your wallet", I'm going to make small talk while raising my shirt as if to get to my wallet, then the response to the threat on my life will begin.

Hopefully in the moments prior to this event I'll consider cover, surroundings, backgrounds, etc, and react accordingly.

In the end, hopefully I'm standing. If not, I was called home.

Honestly, I've run this scenario through my mind a thousand times, and practiced it mentally and physically an equal number of times. Beyond that, I try to minimize my exposure by having good habits: daytime shopping, parking close, not using ATM's, etc.

But, that's just me....
