Spouses with CHL

I voted the wife, but also have 33 year old daughter that has CHL and 41 YO son that is LEO. All of the grandchildren above the age of 9 are regular and proficient handgun shooters. I have been involved in setting up CHL classes for my friends wives in order to increase the pool of informed, armed Texans.

We are all better off when more of our friends, neighbors and relatives legally carry.

I was talking to my wife about this very thing today. She said that she has no interest because she would never carry even if she got it. She said that it's stupid and she's not a parinod freak I carry, so she must feel that she doesn't need to. She enjoys shooting with me sometimes but she won't take the plunge to actually carry.

I hear this answer quite often. Something for her to think about is the future. In the event of a disaster (hurricane, tornado, earthquake, civil unrest, etc.) she might decide having a gun handy would be a good thing. Unfortunately, she would not be able to legally carry and it takes much too long to get the CHL in circumstances like that!

Tale told many times here: My wife, when we were dating in 1993, came to my house for the first time, and saw my gun cabinet. She said "I don't know if I can live in a house with guns."

She now has her CHL, has fired a perfect score on re-qualification, twice!

My wife refuses to get her CHL, but she does carry a taser, that provides some comfort at least.
