Saw this thread this morning, and I need to drop about 30 lb. planning on competing in the Tough Mudder race in Austin in October and while I could make it at 215 lb., it'll be a whole lot easier at 185 lb. I had great success with 'The 4-Hour Body' diet last year, right up until I developed a hairline fracture in the left ankle (Talus). Never really got back into the gym after that, and when combined with working late and ordering too many pizzas...well you get the picture :)

How much soy is in their prepared foods? I've heard about them and on rare occasion thought I might give them a try, but my biggest concern is soy is SO common, I'm afraid I would have a problem with their products. (I'm allergic to soy.)
Ouch... that's fast becoming almost as bad as being allergic to gluten. It's the new "wonder food", and from what I can tell, awareness of soy allergies hasn't risen proportionally with soy's popularity.

2 weeks before Christmas I went to put on a pair of jeans and thought "these must be my "smaller" jeans because they are really tight". I do work for a school and the holidays are brutal with all the food coming in. When I realized they were my "bigger" jeans I had a pity party and decided something had to give! So I signed up for and have stuck with WeightWatcher's online program. I lost 2 pounds a week even through the holidays, and if I would do my 2 mile walks more consistently I would do better. Down 14 pounds total, and it hasn't been that bad. The points system makes me look at portion control, I get points for activity, and now my "smaller jeans" fit easily

I plan to lose another 20 as the past 5 or 6 years the middle age spread has snuck up on me.
I was a stick person until my kids - was even on supplemental shakes to gain weight, as my metabolism was fast and I could eat what I want. Hit 40 and poof! started spreading out,
Even got hubby on board - hoping to get us both healthier with Cholesterol under control!

Last July i stepped on the scale and was floored at what I saw. 5'9", 237lbs... Started counting calories, cut out the liquor/beer/diet cokes, joined the gym, and started running...
December I was down to 187... 50lbs lost!
Today I am right at 193-194lbs and at 40 hrs old in better shape than I was in college.
Waist was 38"-40" and now I'm a 34".
Now I'm training to run the St. Paddy's 5k and the 2012 Tough Mudder.

I started a diet January 15th. I've lost 8 pounds so far. I am just watching my calories and eating better. I have also stopped drinking soda. I am trying to keep my calories at or under 2000 per day. I am using myfitnesspal.com to track it. Easy to enter and keep track and they have app for phones.

Yeah. I've had this allergy since early 90's. I'm just glad it is a comparatively mild allergy. Still, if I have too much in too short a timespan... well, let's just say it doesn't stay with me long enough to get much nutritional value from it. The up side is, having had the allergy this long, I've gotten a decent feel for what not to eat or to eat in small amounts. And if I don't know the food, I don't eat. Works for me.

I too am using the myfitnesspal app on my smartphone. It helps tremendously.

Just keeping this thread going. I've lost 33 pounds to date and I'm down to the last hole in my favorite gun belt. Will have to find a local leather shop to poke a few more in it or else I'll have a rather embarrassing "failure to conceal".

Down 60+ lbs from May. 250 to 187. 5'10" 45 yr old male. I did a medically supervised 500 cal diet for 8 weeks, then 1500 for three months. Now I still eat no sugar, beer, soda, or fried stuff. Lot's of fruit and salad. Lean beef 1-2 times a week. I was too fat to exercise before, now that's the one more thing I need to add to get to my goal weight of 175. Now can stuff a full size SIG P226 in my jeans and still need a belt to hold 'em up.

That is impressive.
I've managed to drop about 9 pounds since January 1 on my way to my goal of 180 by summer. I had topped out at 225 a few years ago, and made some adjustments to diet. That got me down to 200. Then I started running, and convinced myself that I could eat more because I was burning more calories. Not surprisingly, my weight loss stabilized. I've started paying more attention to what I'm eating these days. The weight has started coming off again. 11 pounds to go.

I have done nothing but change what I eat, how I eat, and how much I eat and have lost 27 lbs. since New Years (not a resolution.
Being in the service industry, I always pulled through a fast food place, grabbed a burger and stuffed it quickly as I drove to the next call. 12 years ago, I moved to management and quit smoking at the same time but my way of eating did not change. Gained 50 lbs in first 3 months (160 to 210) after I stopped smoking. Weight gain slowed down but still proceeded. Friday before new years I went to the doc on an unrelated issue and when they weighed me I was at 277. Okay, time to do something. Started by slowing down eating all meals (wife nagged at me for years about this), by doing this I got satisfied without eating as much therefore smaller portions, and my wife fixes more healthy meals and I watch where and what I eat at lunch. Just doing this I am now at 250 and still falling.

I have not seen any posts in here since March... How is everyone doing?
I have lost 20 lbs and continue to lose. I have started running and I am loving that I am getting back into shape! It felt amazing to finally run my first complete mile without stopping. I started really thinking to myself - if trouble started today (riot and such)... would I be able to run away from a threat. My answer was NO. I was prepping for many things (ammo, food, water, weapons, etc...) but I was not prepping my body.
I am losing weight and getting into shape... because I am FINALLY motivated to do so. I don't think I have ever been as motivated to exercise as I am now.

I am very proud to report Middle Age Russ and I have done really well! I lost 30 pounds and reached my goal in April - have been on maintenance since then staying within 2 pounds of my goal. MAR has lost overy 35# and is close to his goal - he started after I did and set his goal loss at a few more pounds. Cholesterol is within normal limits for both of us (mine for the first time in a decade), blood sugars normal, and feeling so much better. We are signing up with a karate school again to add to our walking for exercise, and learn some self defens too.
I am very proud of my guy and must say he is looking good these days
Everybody keep up the good work - I was so amazed at how much better I feel just after losing the weight, now to work on toning and conditioning!
BTW - our docs are very happy too!
