Update:
WEDOWEE--At around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday [17 Nov 2015], a jury returned a verdict of guilty in the murder trial of Robert Gary Sims Jr., 49, in the death of his wife, Brenda, 59. The verdict came at the end of the fourth day of the trial in Randolph County Circuit Court.

Sentencing will be December 1.
...

Dr. Stephen Boudrea, senior medical examiner, said her death was caused by a shot to the chest and the entry wound was surrounded by soot material. He has performed about 5,000 autopsies and testified numerous times as an expert. In a photograph he showed blackish material around the gunshot wound in her chest. The exit wound was on her back.

Boudrea testified the gun was placed loosely in touch with her skin. The shot disrupted her heart and she died very quickly. He deemed the manner of death as homicide. The amount of soot on the wound indicates nothing was between her and the pistol muzzle, although she was wearing a T-shirt.

Sims had a long-running affair of five and a half to six years with Kim Huddleston. Sims allegedly told Huddleston he was not happy with Brenda and would start fights with her so he could see Huddleston. They contemplated divorce but she would not agree with his terms.

I wonder if "her terms" look more reasonable now?

So I guess the guy fired two rounds:
One was a contact shot to her chest
The other one he stuck the gun into the bag and fired it to make a hole to support his story

The danger gone, the trouble righted,
God's forgotten, the soldier slighted.

You would think that the guy being in LE would know:

A) The spouse is the prime person of interest
B) Forensics would catch this tom-foolery in no time

How does somebody that dumb qualify as a reserve sheriff's deputy?

Hate to say it, but high intelligence has never been a requirement for police work. I know that I will get bashed for saying that, but the news is full of law enforcement doing stupid things.

Sadly, that's what happens when you make decisions based off emotions. A sad situation all around, TBH.

I have contact my state rep., Jonathan Stickland, about supporting HB 560. Fine out who represents you, here.
