What do you do if confronted about carrying.

I was at my local gas station lastnight and when I went to pay I had my new double j wallet laid open waiting for my receipt...store owner said "let me see that, that's a funny looking DL" he's kind of a friend since I go there daily so I smiled and handed it to him. He said "oh that's your chl, do you carry all the time?" I said "yes sir I do". He said "I sure wish all my customers did, it'd make me feel better when scum bags walk in" lol.

Same day I was in my shop working on my golf cart and got hot so I had taken my shirt off and just had an under shirt tucked in with my iwb holster and Glock 27 somewhat exposed(no big deal cause I'm at home). Well I needed to run to the parts store so I ran inside and grabbed my wallet and jacket and told the wifey I'd be back shortly. I go and get what I need at Oriley and am checking out. This young black male was helping me and calling me boss the whole time. Then in the end when I paid and left he said have a nice day officer. I was extremely puzzled. When I got home I told my wife the story and she said "well you forgot your cover shirt"

Point of story #2 is if you just act normal and go about your biz no one will ever bother you!!


Ps: oldgringo-piney woods? Legends? What part of the piney woods? I have a place in the pineys with a legends in that town also.

if I HAVE to say something, I'm prepared to fall back on the generic "medical device" statement and not go into details. Let them imagine an insulin injector, some kind of monitor, muscle stimulator, ostomy bag, flux capactitor, or whatever a guy my age might have to use to get through the day. I will then act somewhat embarrassed and offended, and de-escalate/withdraw.

We were going into Legends for a burger today and I was wearing my usual old beat up denim shirt over a Tee. A gust of wind came up and blew my shirt wide open, kinda' like that Marilyn Monroe poster of yore. Everybody around us could see my SA Compact 1911 on my hip. Best I could tell, no one cared - not even me and Mrs. Oldgringo.

Folk, it ain't that big a deal UNLESS you're somehow trying to draw attention or otherwise look and act guilty.

My doctor is an old country doc. That's why he's my doc. Just before Christmas my wife and I were trying to get over some Allergy/Cold symptoms that were pretty nasty. She scheduled appointments for both of us. We were in separate rooms, but he saw her first, and she walked over with him to my room. As he was examining me, he pulled my shirt up to listen to my breathing. He was on my strong arm side, and didn't do as much as a double take when he looked down and saw my King Tuk. My wife was grinning from ear to ear. She commented on the way home about his non-reaction. I told her I'd be surprised if he didn't have one on too.

Here in California, it is so rare as to create a spectacle. I can't begin to imagine the hysteria that might ensue.

Some years ago, we stopped at a pretty nice burger joint in San Antonio. While we were in line to order, 3 or 4 men came in, all of them had pistols exposed, undoubtedly police of some type although none displayed a badge. They were dressed in neat civilian clothes, neither really dressy nor hopelessly casual. As far as I could see, nobody paid the slightest attention. They may be have been Mafia hit men for all I know, although none of the pistols were .22 shorts.

I wore my CCW into the hospital today at 1345 hrs. and there was an older, gray haired guy standing there wearing a gun. He had a grayish fedora on his head and a red tie around his white shirted neck and was holding some papers in his right/gun hand and some sort of badge on his belt. He looked at me, I looked at him. Satisfied with what we saw, we both turned and went about our business.

(I told you what he was wearing, 5 will get you 10 that he couldn't describe me)

I think it only took a few months to get all the jitters out of carrying all the time. What did it for me was after an all day affair of shopping with the wife, we got home and I took my cover shirt off. My wife exclaims behind me "Have you been wearing that thing all day?" If she didn't notice than I know for a fact no one else did. Practice makes perfect and if you get a good quality setup, printing should not be a factor. Good luck and stay safe.

The point is, if you look and act like you're supposed to be armed, no one minds. If you're furtive (look it up) and act guilty, people will notice. Me, I'm fat enough to be a deputy so no one looks twice.

It took my wife forever to figure out I wore during all waking hours except when prohibited by law. I don't know how many times her eyes widened when I took off my shirt and she saw the gun in the IWB holster. I finally told her, "If I am awake, and I am not at the hospital, then I am carrying. If I am at the hospital, it is in the car."

As many others have said, most will not notice, even if you have a wardrobe malfunction, or drop the darn thing on the floor.. Sheeple, are just that.

As for the if your doing it right no one will even know.. as I can say is, while true in the class room, life has this funny way of pointing out the best laid and rehearsed plans can go wrong anyway. Even if concealed properly, not even printing conditions can change that will cause the weapon to become unconcealed.. from a shirt getting caught in a store as you squat, or step down off something.. to what the medics find under your jacket when your on the table in the ER.. having been hit in the head by an errant baseball thrown.. or what even.. Plan, train, rehearse, but at some point.. someone will see the gun... most will not really "SEE" it though, and many will not care if they do, assuming you are a LEO. TV and Movie bad guys are not shown to the public as normal, every day people that carry a weapon in a holster.. they show crazy , mean looking, folks walking in to the store, bank, mall "brandishing" the weapon or pulling it from a jacket pocket, belted waist band.

I'm reasonable in my concealment and have been in the 5 states I've had a carry permit, and many more states I've carried in.. Printing, and extensive measures to rule out the possibility of being outed (to me that would mean leaving the gun at home in the safe) in a bunch of years, I know I've been made a few times, pull the shirt back down and continue what ever I was doing.. I just don't care.. I don't look like a thug, dress like one, carry like one, act like one...most anyone seeing me with a gun in a holster is going to likely assume Im supposed to have one.

I disagree with those who say if you are properly concealed it will never happen.

I have been "outed" twice, and potentially a couple of other times. The first time a gust of wind caught my jacket as I walked into a liquor store and the jacket, just for a moment, hooked over the butt of my 1911, The only person that I know noticed was the counter guy, who, when I got up there with my purchase, declared himself a gun guy too, and wanted to chat about what I liked to carry and which holster and such.

At church, one of our more enthusiastic huggers banged her elbow on my 1911 during one of her characteristic full body hugs. Only she said anything, and that was later in private conversation.

A couple of potential outings involved kids running into me: A kid running down the aisles of a store, ran headlong into my hip and I was sure that everyone there could hear the clank. He went to dad complaining that I had hurt him, and dad, who had seen the whole thing, merely scolded him for doing what dad had been trying to get him to stop.

At the State Fair a bunch of kids were coming out of the auto show and bouncing around the steps and running into people. One of them headed my direction and I led with my carry gun on purpose, the look on his face when he crashed into me and found something hard instead of my body was classic, and I'll bet the junior gang banger knew exactly what he had run into.

I am a long time believer in Murphy's Law and its myriads of corollaries, so I expect, despite all of my best efforts, that it is entirely possible that, through no fault of my own but merely the fell clutch of circumstance, someone may find out that I am carrying, and I have scripted a couple of responses based on the actual situation, which I will promptly forget on the spot.

That's so true. Look at all the gun owners who don't even notice when people open carry in Arizona.
