Yup, domains are cheap.

Ever wonder if the mayors against legal guns would come to you offering to buy the domains? I've noticed a few sites do this. They buy the common "typo" domains so people still get directed to their site.
1) It would be a big check
2) It would be given to the NRA in a very public event
FYI: As a standard practice, you're supposed to lock out alternate domain spellings by buying them and redirecting them. Apparently, even though MAIG is run by a billionaire, they don't understand enough about the intertubes to do that (or they're too cheap). Their loss.

I was just looking at Alexa.com's traffic analysis of MAIG's site, here's what it said:
"Based on internet averages, mayorsagainstillegalguns.org is visited more frequently by females who are in the age range 55-64, have no children, are graduate school educated and browse this site from work.."
So, they're paying their executive assistants to browse the site to bump the traffic numbers?!
Their ranking for their site is 2,187,762. That's not just "bad", it's abysmal. It works out to 2.6 unique views a day. Interesting factoid: It is 6x less visited than lowpriceskates.com, which is considered one of the worst websites of 2011.
Compared to more familiar site rankings:
saf.org: 1,049,446
nagr.org: 151,862
nra.org: 139,900
I have no idea why I spent the 15 minutes looking at that information, but there you have it

Good grief! My personal whole-in-the-wall site averages 60 unique views a day.

The SMALL anti-gun groups are really good at appearing to be larger than they are ...
That's the hindrance with "legislators listening to their constituents" when Mr. FakeName432 faxes from New York saying he lives in Corpus Christi/Killeen etc and they repeat in every State's affairs, just like NY Bloomberg "investigates" our gun shows, Arizona Gun shops, and then I suppose all the same people moved to Nevada and tell legislators they won't send their kids to a Nevada college either ... I now believe them ... their kids are at an Occupy sleep-in love-fest and not in any college ... they are the 99% (trying to appear to be a larger group than they are) who are getting treated with Penicillin at taxpayer expense.

Yah, but keep in mind that Alexa's numbers aren't amazingly accurate. The only way to get a reasonably fair comparison is to compare your site on Alexa to theirs, that way you know the same statistical tracking is being used. My guess, to be honest, is that Alexa underreports.

Its the mainstream (lame-stream) media that hypes and pumps up those groups like MAIG...the vast bulk of the media is a mouthpiece for a liberal (leftist) ideology, even the supposed "conservative" news outlet is just less liberal than others...there is very little reporting of facts and much reporting of whatever it is they want "the masses" to be tuned in to...I think if the Founding Fathers could see what our press has turned into, they would be absolutely disgusted...they would recognize the personal attacks, but would be horrified that its all done in a semi-concerted way.

The great and powerful MAIG!
Pay no attention to the 27 people behind the curtain who make up their entire membership.

Or the good portion of their mayors that are under indictment/have been convicted of crimes.
Of course they don't want us to have guns...they're crooks! Criminals hate armed opposition!

video is abt economy until 11:00 in at which time Bloomberg talks about mayors ... and congress changing gun laws and talking abt Gabby Gifford ... talks about 2 minutes then talks about military
Marketing errors in target audiences ...
I would think a Hallmark movie might be a better spot for an anti-gun commercial than a he-man football game ...
IBM spent a lot on a Superbowl commercial for OS/2 Warp ... "It will warp/destroy your computer" or something like that... could have chosen the words better

I only watched about 2/3rds of the Super Bowl and didn't see if the MAIG commercial came on. Anybody see it?

Did anybody see the ad? Chance I might have been out of the room and missed it but mostly didn't leave during the commercials.

I saw somewhere else that they only bought local time in DC, not national ad time.
I guess they know who their audience is.

I heard something similar...so...Bloomberg spends a million dollars to reach an already-pacified audience, to deliver a message to a narrow market share?
I'm still checking to see if there was any traffic on the "alternative" sites
