for the first time since the Civil War, the federal government will deploy military personnel inside the United States and publicly acknowledge that it is deploying them "to collect information about U.S. persons.”

If the military personnel see something of interest from a drone, they may apply to a military judge or "military commander” for permission to conduct a physical search of the private property that intrigues them.

Why do people think that the UAV usage in the USA will be performed by the military?? Private companies and contractors will be using them along with law enforcement (federal and other). The only reason the military is flying them in the USA is for training, R&D and testing purposes... NOT for spying.

That's not to mention that "spying" and surveillance are a TINY part of the overall usage of UAVs. I'm getting tired of saying that Posse Comitatus isn't even coming into play here, I can't see why people keep bringing it up.

Do you have any real info about the military being deployed for surveillance purposes or is it only from this guy?

IMO, anyone taking images of me or my private property, without a warrant, while I'm ON my private property is a violation of the Constitution.

I wasn't aware that U.S. Customs & Border Protection was a branch of the military.

Also, the country sheriff already had a warrant in that situation.

Driving past my house and taking photos is, of course, not the issue. Flying over my yard and observing me and the family in the hot tub, or flying a mile up and a mile to the East and taking photos in my windows... Quite different. No?

If you want to have any credibility in this discussion, try focusing on the main points and quit sniping at the outliers. It's not constructive.

Yes... There are some very good commercial uses for drones. I agree 100%.
Anyone using them to breach my reasonable expectation privacy without a warrant should be jailed.

Of course I get your point, and agree. But I haven't seen UAVs misused in the USA yet, and if you have concerns about them I'd start making my voice heard right now, because they're on the way like it or not.

Personally, I'm more annoyed at fixed surveillance cameras that see me hundreds of times a day (when I'm back in the USA) than an aircraft that might happen to see into my backyard one day.
