It finally happened Student Failed

While we are on the subject of firing lines and RSO's.... When I took my first CHL Class in 2003 (Concealed Handgun of San Antonio) there was an older couple there and the lady brought her .38 Police Special to qualify on, that is until she realized she would have been limited to carrying a revolver. She insisted on renting one of the intructor's guns, which happened to be a .40 Glock, full size. She was unfamiliar with the firearm and appeared to lack the hand strength to rack the slide. After she flagged the line the first time trying to lock the slide to the rear I offered to stand by her (only 2 RSOs for 10 of us) and help her out. He obliged and together we made sure she passed and no one else suffered the creation of a hole they didn't have when they arrived. I have since taken his renewal once (not as good as the first time) and will be due for another one in Feb of next year.

Makes me question whether getting her CHL is her idea or his idea. If it isn't her genuine idea, perhaps she is better off not carrying. Some people might be better off not carrying. I'm not trying to sound presumptuous, though. It bugs me when I hear about husbands "pushing" guns on their wives or sucking all of the enjoyment from shooting a gun by being bossy or patronizing. That's a great way to quickly kill the interest level.

When we got done she was EXTREMELY excited and impressed with herself. She said she was really looking forward to shooting more now that she understands what she needs to do and what she needs to work on. She was so excited she couldn't stop talking and I almost didn't get to go home. LOL She even asked if there was a women's shooting group at our club. Unfortunately the only women's group we have is a group of ladies that shoots skeet and trap every week. Sounds like something we need to do, and she wants to help put it together. I think we have created a monster.

I'm glad she came back and did well. My husband has been very supportive of my shooting. I was always very intimidated about holding a gun, much less shooting a gun. After several trips to the range, I started feeling a bit more confortable and decided I wanted to work on my shooting and get my CHL. While he has been very good at instructing me, I have also watched a few videos on Youtube. The videos basically told me the same thing my husband did, but I think I understood it better on the video. We went to the range last night so that I could practice one more time before my CHL class tomorrow. He let me shoot my way with no instruction, just encouragement, and I did much better. Only had four shots at long range that were outside the 7's but still within the sillouette. All of my 3 and 7 foot shot were inside the 8's or better. I felt more at ease and think I am ready for my class.

That's all you need. 40 rounds in the 8 ring is 200 points. You only need 175 to qualify. Go Get'em!

UPDATE: Well, I had her dry fire a 1911-22 working on sight alignement etc. then put 10 rounds through it , followed by dry firing the PT1911-9mm then 10 rounds all placed VERY well. A little work on stance and a constant reminder of grip and trigger pull, and she passed! 227, much better than her frist run at 165. Finished up letting her try a snubby with 130 gr jacketed bullets. She liked it too and shot it very well. SHe has some new ideas of what to look for. They joined the CLub, and I will be looking forward to helping in the future.
