Just be glad I'm not from Indiana. They put something that more closely resembles a very meaty spaghetti sauce on top of ... spaghetti and call it chili! :eek6
Here's a link for the award winning Hoosier Chile. It doesn't have spaghetti, but it does have macaroni and kidney beans.

Ingredients
2 pounds extra-lean ground beef
2 cups chopped onion
3/4 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon brown sugar
3 tablespoons chili powder
2 (16 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes
1 (46 ounce) can tomato juice
1 (10.5 ounce) can beef broth
1/2 cup uncooked elbow macaroni
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
Directions
1. In a large Dutch oven or soup kettle, brown beef until no longer pink. Add onion, celery, green pepper and garlic. Continue cooking until vegetables are tender. Add all remaining ingredients except last two; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1-1/2 hours, adding macaroni for last half hour of cooking time. Stir in the beans and heat through.

I was born in Indiana. Mom used to make "chili" like this. Canned spaghetti and canned kidney beans. Think the beans and spaghetti were addded to try and stretch the meal size. It was pretty good, the wife makes it occasionally but it is 'Indiana chili" and not chili.

Edited to add. Lump charcoal, no gas.

The character is from East Texas. I'm glad they bothered to research and know that all Texans should know chili has no beans. ;-)

The first time I went to Taco Cabana, I ordered chili con queso and expected chili with cheese. But even then I knew chili doesn't have beans, unless it's "depression chili."

I like "Cincinnati chili" over pasta but I sympathize with people who say it isn't real chili. I feel the same way about California Pizza Kitchen.

Forum rule update

11. Off-topic posts/threads: Since they tend to cause the most problems for other boards, our "off-topic" sub-forum is not an "anything goes" area. Absolutely no discussions of religion, immigration/border security, abortion, race matters, grilling, chili, or any other hot-button political issues. (Gun-related political issues can be discussed in other areas.)

Yesterday I put a cast-iron pot of chilli over the coals in my side box smoker while the ribs and brisket cooked. Is this grilling? I also cooked scalloped potatoes the same way. Is it okay to grill chilli and potatoes? I do not want to break any grilling commandments.........

Wouldn't the beans fall through the grill?
