If you are really wanting to keep it scratch free- send it off to get hard chromed... and there is little chance you'll ever see more holster wear after that.

My Browning Hi Power shows no signs of wear or use. My SA Compact 1911, which is my EDC, shows character even though it rides in an OWB leather holster.

My face and body show a lot of signs of wear and use. I guess that means I have a lot of character.

I agree. Perhaps if it was a family heirloom or something really expensive or rare, but for the most part a gun with a great deal of holster wear has more character. It is just nicer in my opinion. I am not to worried if my Glock gets scratched or something, but a Les Baer 1911 might cause me to cringe.

I never intentionally put scratches on my carry guns but I don't care if they get holster wear and scratches.

Hmm...everyone has some great opinions on whether its "keep the scratches it gives it character" or an "I agree, my gun is my baby". I think that for now I will continue to baby my guns and keep them as "pristine" as possible until that one faithful day that I get a deep enough scratch that it will be permanent. My Taurus 709 Slim's White Hat Max Tuck holster was just shipped yesterday so I should be receiving it soon...with that in mind lets see how many wear and tear marks I'll get with this holster...

Question: I have read that the Remora holster is a good option for a workout holster. Any opinions on that? How's the wear and tear from that holster? Haha.

I like the looks of a handgun with holster wear and it does not bother me a bit. Here is what happened to me about 2 years ago that I did not like. I bought a new Glock (27) from a internet business and when I got it I could not believe the condition of the slide. First of all it was that dull finish that Glock had started using around that time. That bad thing was it looked like the slide had been put in a box with about 100 other slides and shook real good for about an hour. Scratches all over the place on that slide in every direction. Now I know its a tool but I prefer to put my own scratches on a gun so I sent it off to Glock. They called me a week or so later and tried to tell me it was not a new gun. We talked for awhile and they decided they would refinish the slide. Well, about 10 weeks later I got my slide back it about the same condition that it was in when I sent it. Needless to say, I don't worry about treating that G27 with kid gloves today.

I keep it clean and try to keep it free of scratches, but at some point my carry gun is gonna get banged up, and as long as it functions properly I suppose I'll get over any wear. I won't like it though.

I am one of those people who sweat while others are mildly cool ans I wear a neck holster all day. I only worry about keeping enough oil on it to keep the rust away. I have a IWB super tuck for nighttime and weekend wear but alas both have holster wear from practice. Who really cares as long as they go bang when I need them.

Can't argue with that. I love my little Kimber, but I had absolutely no hesitation taking a file and sandpaper to it to round butt the frame for a little added comfort on my ribs and a lot of comfort in the hand. Peace of mind alone is worth more than I have in it. (Heck, my insurance deductible is higher than the replacement cost! lol) If I lost it after an incident, it would be too bad but I would just buy another and do the same thing to it.

Honest holster wear looks great IMHO, it's the first idiot scratch that kills me!

If you don't want your gun to get holster wear; may I suggest Mexican carry?
