And 51% means nothing if the TABC license says "gun sign=blue" but they put up the 51% anyway.

I see this a LOT! And TABC hasn't done squat about it. I've reported more than 5 locations.

I've reported several in our area and the TABC is generally there in 3-5 days and almost in every case I've gotten an email back from the agent advising me of the updated status.

Guess Houston TABC is a bit busier?
Could be... one was in Waco though. TABC emailed me back and said they would follow up, but never did, and they never replied to my follow-up emails either.
And... the venue still has the improper signage... they have both the blue and red sign posted, but their license is 'blue'.
(It's George's in Waco)

Here's what I sent to TABC so they could see for themselves before making the trip out...

Yeah, but the 51 % sign is in Spanish. Just tell them " No hablo espanol". :smilelol5:

Maybe they are segregating their sales. They only have the 51% sign in Spanish, so maybe they make more than 51% of their revenue from sale of alcohol to Hispanics. We 'mericans either need to drink more when we go there or quit eating so much, one or the other.

Maybe they're racist and believe only those who speak English should be able to carry!?

Resurrecting an old topic. My credit union is not normally posted 30.06. I love that. But today I went to a more remote location. Went inside. I am pretty good about looking for 30.06 signs. I checked on the way in and didn’t see anything big enough to be 30.06. I go inside and am third in line. There is an off duty police officer working security. I have on a IWB tuckable holster so the big black metal clip is visible. I am bored and turn to look at the door and that is when I see a 30.06 sign printed on a landscaped 8.5” x 11” piece of paper!! Completely undersized but still had my mind racing at a million miles an hour. And of course the worst part was that my holster’s metal clip was on the side facing the officer.

So do I leave and come back inside and possibly draw the attention of the officer? Do I leave and not come back? Do I stick it out and see if concealed means concealed? I think the correct answer would probably have been to leave and hit the drive thru but no one ever accused me of being smart.

The conflict in my head was 1) don’t draw his attention and 2) it was a bad sign and 3) are they going to post all of their locations? 4) I just picked this CU because it wasn’t posted do I have to change it all again? I don’t think it was coherent but I can ask a million questions in mere seconds.

The officer appeared to care less about me. I didn’t think that I had raised his interest. I chose to just act cool and chant “concealed means concealed” in my head. I guess I was calm and boring enough. Got my withdraw done and moseyed on my way.

Thoughts on the right answer or right thing to do? I don’t have a need to be a test case.

I like to think the law is our shield here. I understand others' points about the risks of walking past an improper 30.06. But I think we should walk right past them. Same for gun busters and outdated verbiage signs. It seems that using that logic (that you don't want to press your luck and be a test case) we are at risk anytime we carry anywhere and should always consider leaving our guns in our gun safes. You know, just in case.

Ok, perhaps I'm just feeling feisty since I went to the range today. :)

I'm not sure how much I want to be a test case for a legal issue not involving actually protecting mine, but I agree with you. We're always a self defense act away from paying legal fees. We probably ought to be ready to do the same simply for carrying. Not fun to think about but true. We never know what activist or scardy cat we'll run into.

As I stated earlier, it is a decision that each CHL must make for themselves as to pass a non-commpliant sign or not. Our job as instructors is to teach our students what the law says. Then the CHL holder has to make sure they are comfortable with their decision on how they proceed with their daily activites when carrying.

This reminds me of a show I was watching "I almost got away with it" in which the criminals were nervous and panicky about the cops being on top of them... In reality, nothing was going on...relax! :)

I went to the gun show in Tyler today. It is posted but on city property. I decided to take the gun out of my IWB, but leave the holster in place...empty. Without the gun in it, the leaher tab sticks out at the top and really was not "concelaled" as I walked amongst the masses. Nobody (including the officers on duty) said a word. I could have been carrying (legally) and it would have not been an issue. Maybe I'll try my luck nex time.

I liked what you said in your earlier posting on this topic and here is why: intent. I personally will carry right past a gunbuster sticker or some generic "no guns allowed" sign...because I cannot discern their intent...maybe they only intend to keep out "illegal guns", maybe its a "feel good" for those who don't know how the law works, it could be a lot of things. However, IF they take the time and effort to make up some sort of 30.06 sign, even if they misspell a word or two, or the font isn't correct, or the size of the sign isn't right, to ME PERSONALLY they are showing their INTENT to keep out even those LAWFULLY carrying. IANAL, of course, and those who are can correct me if this is not a good line of reasoning in this regard...in fact, please correct me, I'm always willing to learn something.
