Your bank has a metal detector? Are you sure? Is it manned?
FWIW, Washington Mutual has/had several banks around Houston that had not only manned metal detectors, but the metal detectors were in "airlocks" through which you had to be buzzed, one at a time to enter the lobby. These "airlocks" featured armored glass and massive mag-locks. Don't know how many of the banks had them but the one at Rockhill and Broadway as well as the GulfGate facility had these "airlocks." Banks in "nicer" parts of town do not sport such security features.
Now here's the goofy part. In the Washington Mutual at Rockhill and Broadway, the side of the bank opposite Broadway is still a big, unarmored, glass wall with standard metal framed doors. A well placed rock would allow unimpeded entry but I guess I wasn''t supposed to notice that.

So if you trip the detector, what would they do? I suspect they can't hold you against your will if you wanted to get back on the street.
I also suspect the detectors are set at a very high level to keep from false tripping. It may be worth the effort to literally take a hunk of iron about the mass of a pistol and see if it trips the detector. Maybe they're not even funcitonal?

That's funny stuff!
Can't we all just get along...LOL.
LT,
I'm new to the 1911 world but after putting 750 rounds through my new Kimber I am sorry that I didn't get one sooner. It's almost addictive shooting that gun. I can't wait until Sig figures thiers out.
Oh, and USAA is an online bank for the most part, unless you are close to San Antonio... so problem solved for me... to get back to the topic.

My bank isn't posted, would you write your bank thanking them or would they think "oh crap how'd we miss that" promptly followed by a 30.06 sign.

I suppose I will make this pretty much unanimous.
My banks are not posted.
I pack at least one, mostly two when I visit, and I will switch banks when and if they post, and it will not be quietly. The way I figure it if I am taking out all my ch-ching they will either provide me with armed escort or allow me to pack while I close out.
Shouldn't verbal notice go both ways?
Anygunanywhere including banks.

Which as I'm sure you're aware is irrelevant if you have a CHL, since it doesn't meet the requirements of PC30.06.
I sometimes think businesses
deliberately post non-compliant signs to placate hoplophobes, knowing full well that CHL holders can ignore non-PC30.06-compliant signs.
Personally, I carry everywhere it's not explicitly prohibited either by law (courthouse, polling place, etc.) or a
compliant PC30.06 / 51% posting - grocery store, bank, restaurant, doctor's office, etc.

It's been several years since I walked into either lobby. I make it a point to go to other facilities. The last time I was in the GulfGate facility, the detector were very functional but they had no real procedures in place. I tripped the detectors at the GulfGate facility when my wife and I opened our first joint account together several years ago. The guard let me in after I put my knives in a one-way tray for her. Of course, she immediately handed the knives back to me once I was in the lobby
I wasn't wearing a gun that day so I don't know how that would have been handled.

I definitely carry everywhere there's not a 30.06 posted.......except, of course, the places listed as restricted. A bank is a business like any other. I don't look at it any differently than a McDonalds.

My credit union does post a valid 30.06 sign at the front door, and it is totally visible from way out in the sidewalk area...
So when I do have to run by there, I will only go through the drive through and avoid going inside as much as possible...
I've had an account there for about 32 of my 42 years on this planet, so I figure its still worth it to have one like that...Even though their "30.06" posting has only been around for about 3-4 years If I recall correctly...
Somebody apparently ate a bug or something about firearms at that place...I hope it gave them gas...

If you feel obliged to do business with them (and it seems you do), then you might want to contact the manager and let them know how you feel about their sign. Remember, CHL holders are some of the most law abiding citizens around.
WE aren't the ones he needs to be concerned about, and the 30.06 sign won't stop a bank robber...

Who says I haven't???
I even had an apointment with the main branch president, and explained to him how dissapointed I was with this policy...When they never had it before...And only implemented it after the branch I normally patronize was remodeled...
All in all he was a bit of a snoot, and I said as I was leaving I was glad they still had a drive-thru...
I know I should probably close the account, but I figure I'll just keep it till we move up to NorthEast Texas in a year or so...
At which time they can go pound sand...
