The national titles are very silly to do now... The timing is what really makes it look bad. It would be different if it was over the summer or something.74novaman wrote:Regarding the national titles, they're long overdue. Many schools have claimed retroactive titles from pre AP championships in 1936. Frankly they should have added 1917 as well (Ags went undefeated and unscored upon, just like they did in 1919.). Are they silly? Yeah, but we certainly didn't start the trend. Heck, USC even claims 1939, when AP awarded the title to A&M. If you want to complain about a school claiming titles they don't deserve, talk to Alabama, who's gone so far as to claim a NC for a year they went 8-2.
The conference titles are dumber. The only big 12 title we have is 1998. But big 12 rules call division champions conference champions, so I guess you could argue we're following their dumb rules.
The big 12s own media guide credits A&M with 3 confrrence championships in football. http://www.big12sports.com/fls/10410//p ... M_ID=10410 (it's on page 6).
I'd prefer we just claimed '98, but if the conference considers them "championships" I can see why someone would want to claim them.
My .02 on the issue.

The conference titles are incredibly bad. I mean just bad... Smacks of reaching hard to find something to brag about all the way to essentially lying. I'd be embarrassed of it if my school did that. I'm sure 90% of Aggies feel like you do about those.

I'm not a huge Jerry Jones fan, but I AM a Cowboys fan, and have been since I was 6. Through thick and thin, the Super Bowl-less 80's, the 3 championship 90's, and even now. I love and appreciate the history of the team.Scott in Houston wrote:
Exactly... I'm a huge Redskins fan now. Love RG3... hate Jerry Jones. That makes for a great combination.
I can't be a fan of a team for just one player, either. RG3 was a phenomenal QB. I hope he does well (just not TOO well...). I am a Texas Tech fan, but I can't be either a Patriots fan (Wes Welker) or Rams fan (Danny Amendola) just because they have a player or two from the college I like on them.
Yeah, I understand.
My thing is this: I spent a lot of time, effort, and money at Baylor. I still contribute a bit with graduate events and programs as well as helping to mentor, council, and sometimes hire undergrads today. It's become a big part of me and my life. As a result, I'm much more interested in how Baylor performs than any professional team of any league.
As for the NFL, I only live in a city with a NFL football team. There's no real tie. I've always been a Broncos fan because I lived in Denver as a kid, but that's it. I still like the Broncos a lot, but care less about the Broncos than I do of individuals who mean something to me, like RG3. FWIW, I got to know his parents as well over the years at our tailgate, so I don't know Robert at all, but I somewhat know them, and that adds to the reason I want him to succeed.
Now that Kendall Wright, another awesome athlete from Baylor, is on the Titans, I'll even pull for them. And this is from an old Oilers guy! As long as Kendall is playing and contributing heavily, I'll pull for them. (I won't root for Washington if Robert isn't the starting QB, but if he is, they're my team).
That's kind of a rambling way of explaining myself, so hope it's understandable. :)
I'm not going to say that Arkansas should have been ranked higher or lower, because I haven't watched them play this year. (And I feel your pain with high expectations and low results. That's A&M most years.BigGuy wrote: There was a lot of talk that Arkansas was a serious contender for an SEC and BCS championship. Arkansas was ranked no 8. (low in my opinion) going into their second game.

I heard A&M cut a deal with Arkansas to extend the series with them, but they would give up the LSU Thanksgiving game so we could play LSU. Who needs Texas or their network74novaman wrote:
Looking forward to Arkansas coming to Kyle Field this year. Just wish we were keeping the series Home and Home instead of moving back to Jerryworld.
Raise your hand if you expected one of the two teams in this weekend's showdown between Arkansas and Alabama to be unranked at game time.
Put your hand down...no you didn't.
