Sorry. After I saw your message I realized that I must have given the wrong impression.
The Mac can do all the things that the Linux box can do, including running most open source Linux software. My daughter uses OpenOffice on hers. She also used Parallels to run some Windows apps (primarily Internet Explorer) but that was only because the school she was attending required the use of some webapps that only worked in IE.

In that case, I agree. I thought you meant the obverse.
I thought he just didn't like bash.

Interesting. "Obverse" is the opposite of "reverse", and usually refers to the "heads" side of a coin. So I guess that if you thought he meant the "obverse", then you thought he meant just what he said.

I have made my living working with Windows starting with 2.0 and still going strong today, although I have to also work on Linux now. I had a couple of years where I was working with OS/2 (1.x, 2.x, and Warp). I even got an Amiga 1000 when they first came out. My preferences from most preferred to least preferred are:
OS/2 - Any version using the Workplace Shell
Mac
Amiga
Windows
Linux
As you said, to each his own. :)

Both Mrs Anygun and I have iPhones. My employer's standard is the iPhone so I had no choice. I liked it so I bought her one and she loves it.
Recently our fourth personal windows piece of garbage overpriced Dell gave up the ghost so I bought her a Macbook, I think the 13". Pretty cool except that I have to learn more stuff now the way apple does it. Small price to pay. I hope the thing lasts as long as it is supposed to.
Only real issue so far is that I have a 1TB server with all of my music and stuff on that the Lion OS will not access. It does not do PowerPC apps. My employer's IT nazis lock out certain features so I cannot access it either on my work winders machine.
**sigh**.

What OS are you running on the server that Lion can't access? I am running Snow Leopard and can access both Windows and Mac boxes. What machine are you running your PowerPC apps on?

I still prefer PC's myself. My cousin runs pretty much all Apple equipment in her business - she likes them plenty. I've found it hard to unlearn the years of experience on Windows-ish based systems to enjoy using a Mac. I'm a cost based kind of guy: Apple charges
way too much for what they sell, when you could build and absolute beast of a PC using the same amount of money. That's just me though, as I enjoy building and maintaining my own systems, plus I game a lot. I like the fact that I can basically slowly upgrade my system through the years to ease the upfront cost of an eventual rebuild: $260 for a new GPU here, $150 for a SSD there, etc. Things like PSU's and nice cases will generally not need to be replaced terribly often, almost never in the "case" of the latter (see what I did there?).
I will say that my cousins MacBook Pro is really physically sleek compared to most laptops I've handled - the form factor and the case are superb. Wouldn't want to have to use it though

. Different strokes for different folks!

Get a copy of Parallels Desktop and run a version of Windows in a virtual machine......what I used to do before I stopped caring about designing webpages for Internet Exploder 6 and older. That way you can keep OS X up and running and just run Windows in a window.

TAM, are you telling me that the websites you design aren't tested under IE?

I test them, but I don't design for it. IE7 on handles stuff just fine and doesn't require any special accommodation. I just don't care about designing for IE6 any longer. Haven't had a complaint yet.

Apple Wins $1 Billion as Jury Finds Samsung Violated Patents
http://www.cnbc.com/id/48783982
Apple scored a sweeping legal victory over Samsung Electronics on Friday as a U.S. jury found the Korean company had copied critical features of the hugely popular iPhone and iPad and awarded the U.S. company $1.05 billion in damages.
As for the countersuit, the jury found Apple did not violate any of Samsung's wireless standards or feature patents.
So what next? Aside from the jury award, will Samsung have to pay a royalty to Apple for devices sold to date and going forward?
